The original cap that came w the car has a plastic tie to the vehicle that allows the cap to dangle while fueling....the cap I purchased did not....

Yup, buy the Gates cap, slowly "unscrew" along the threads without stretching it...my Vibe is 2005. After almost 20 yrs of the seal being slightly compressed for a seal, it finally stopped sealing.... for less than 10 dollars or if you live in Calif...about 2 gallons of gasoline.... it get...

In case you need to replace the gas tank cap....

I recently got the error code indicating an evaporative gas tank issue.... I ordered the Gates # 31832 cap and carefully walked the rubber seal off of the New Cap and carefully worked it back on my Old cap . Seems to work well.....

Vibraphone.... Looks like on your other related post, the VVT rattle went away. You may wanna go w Penzoil Ultra Platinum 5-30 or Mobil One Extended Performance..... Ive been using Mobil one High mileage on my now 264k engine and, "knock on wood" no rattle , no problem.... Wishing you well...

Check out walmart. Goodyear Assurance tires if $$ is an issue...
Ive got the old version of Goodyear Reliant which is no longer available, other than being noisy, they are OK.
Costco tires are pretty good ....

1) did you change all of your oil and return to 5-30 oil or keep the 10-40 oil mixture in your other post.

I had the opposite happen. My VVT rattle started at 120k miles, the rattle remained for approx 2 years, would only happen on start up and after troubleshooting I decided to use Mobil 1 High mileage oil. 5-30 . Within 3k miles, the rattle went away , never to return...... my guess is that the deterge...

Mission accomplished. I located the green/white wire connector at the actuator and finally figured out how to un-plug the connector. Wedge a very very small flat head screwdriver under the front of the connector to lift the front and allowed me to pull the plug. That did the trick Thanks for the adv...

For Trans fluid I only buy Toyota Fluid from Toyota, you can also get it on-line.

Sounds like there is a conflict on your fluid, you may want to make absolutely sure you only use the correct type of fluid for replacement. Could be a big issue.

3rd Generation Prius cars are notorious for oil burning due to oil control rings. Not saying this is "exactly" the same thing w your Vibe, but, I have read that some folks have successfully used additives to get the rings to loosen up. Some have poured some "Mystery Oil" Or Berry...

A friend who bought their Vibe at 20k, pulled out 2.5 qts at 90k miles and did it twice...then did the same thing at 200k...The car has over 250k miles now.... dont flush, just get "some" of the dirty fluid out , you will feel better and hopefully, the transmission will last many more mile...

wellll. Bottom line....the rough idle only on start up was a small head gasket leak... ended up getting a misfire code later on ... then doing the igniter swap and ingniter replacement, New spark plugs , MAF was cleaned, still rough idle. Coolant level started to go down..... Ended up using Bars HG1...

Invest in a good car stethoscope to try to locate the location of the noise....
so, if the engine is stopped for a few minutes , like to go into a store and get back in 10 minutes, it makes no noise....?

What is a Warm start? When you start up, the engine is cold, takes minutes to come to temp and car is then at appropriate temperature. How long does the noise last? Long shot.... loose bolt holding an alternator, A/C compressor/Exhaust manifold etc etc, that warms up and then does not make the noise...

Update: The original misfire was a head gasket (HG) leak. There were bubbles in the radiator as the engine warmed up and cap was left off to observe bubbles. Coolant color change kit was used and confirmed that it was a HG leak. The owner wanted to try Bars HG-1 Head gasket leak sealant. Instruction...

Picked up a Bluedriver reader / scan tool. Compared all the readings vs my own Vibe to her Vibe and there does not seem to be any parameters that are out of line in terms of MAP sensor, or Fuel trim readings etc I will check the intake manifold gasket this week. joatman, are you saying that there could be a vacuum leak at #4 cylinder position? If cold, gasket is contracted, when warm it expands enough to seal and idles well afterward ? Would this generate a code ? PO304
