Ive got the infamous "clicking" sound from the dash. The recirculation button does NOT change the airflow from outside or inside.
The outside air is only sightly coming through when on the freeway.
I do not intend to bother w the actuator due to the "hassle factor"
IF I unplug the white connector on the left side of the Blower Fan, is the ONLY component affected the clicking motor ?
Is anything else in the dash affected ?
Thanks
I recently replaced mine and drove it for about a week while awaiting the new part. I only used the A/C and did not try heat and/or all the different settings to confirm what impact it would have without it plugged in. I couldn't find anything on with google searches but some other members might have input on that. My thought is to just deal with the hassle and replace it. Nothing more satisfying once you complete the repair!
The problem Ive seen from quite a few is that the part, even OEM part fails sooner than later and the struggle trying to fix the think is not something I want to do on a regular basis.
So, the question is.... is there anything else other than the clicking motor going to get disconnected if the connector is disconnected ?
I have seen those complaints as well but there are a lot of counterfit/poor quality parts (even that are advertised as OEM). I can tell you that over the years, I have replaced the one in my 2008 Vibe in 2022 and my 2007 in 2024. I have not had any issues with either. If you still didn't want to replace, then you could always disconnect and run some tests or look at the wiring diagram to see what else it controls. Another member might have some input too.
Its been too long since I was in there, so I can't say if the connector in the picture is the one for the fresh/recirc motor. However, my 03 Vibe service manual shows 2 wires going to the motor, one is Green with a White stripe, the other is Blue with a white stripe.
When the key is on, the motor is always under power, pushing against the stops, which is why the gear eventually drops teeth. For fresh air, the switch puts 12V on one wire and ground on the other. For recirc, the switch reverses the polarity, making the motor turn the other direction
You can disconnect the wire going to the motor without affecting anything else.
Keep in mind that fresh air defogs the windshield a lot better than recirc (which is why they put that mechanical interlock that kicks it out of recirc when you switch air flow to defrost/windshield) Having it stuck in recirc mode could be problematic, so you should consider dealing with the motor at some point.
I disconnected the connector in the picture...its the blower motor.
I will hunt for the green wire Joatman suggested via his manual....the search continues
It seems likely that the only connectors involved are the one on the back of the ac/recirc switch in the dash and the one on the fresh/recirc actuator motor itself.
If you pull the one on the back of the switch you lose being able to turn ac on, something unthinkable with the summer I've had so far.
You should be able to pull the glove box and reach the actuator near the top left side of the air box. Then it's a matter of solving the connector release tab, but folks have replaced the actuator without pulling the dash
Mission accomplished.
I located the green/white wire connector at the actuator and finally figured out how to un-plug the connector. Wedge a very very small flat head screwdriver under the front of the connector to lift the front and allowed me to pull the plug.
That did the trick
Thanks for the advice
Much appreciagted
