wellll. Bottom line....the rough idle only on start up was a small head gasket leak... ended up getting a misfire code later on ... then doing the igniter swap and ingniter replacement, New spark plugs , MAF was cleaned, still rough idle. Coolant level started to go down..... Ended up using Bars HG1...

Invest in a good car stethoscope to try to locate the location of the noise....
so, if the engine is stopped for a few minutes , like to go into a store and get back in 10 minutes, it makes no noise....?

What is a Warm start? When you start up, the engine is cold, takes minutes to come to temp and car is then at appropriate temperature. How long does the noise last? Long shot.... loose bolt holding an alternator, A/C compressor/Exhaust manifold etc etc, that warms up and then does not make the noise...

Update: The original misfire was a head gasket (HG) leak. There were bubbles in the radiator as the engine warmed up and cap was left off to observe bubbles. Coolant color change kit was used and confirmed that it was a HG leak. The owner wanted to try Bars HG-1 Head gasket leak sealant. Instruction...

Unless someone says otherwise, it appears our Drive by Wire do Not have a IAC valve so, what then would control the Idle speed at load and no load. I assume its the Computer that learns your driving style.....but I have seen that some have to teach the computer to teach the idle speed in "DRIVE...

joatman, are you saying that there could be a vacuum leak at #4 cylinder position? If cold, gasket is contracted, when warm it expands enough to seal and idles well afterward ? Would this generate a code ? PO304

I've searched and could not find any answers...The round adjustable vents on the front dash that direct air in any direction will only stay full open or closed, it will no longer stay in a partial open position....have any of you fixed this problem?

I do not have a definitive answer.... I have changed the engine oil at least every 5-6k miles since the car was one year old and have always used synthetic. And, yes, I was using 5-30 viscosity previously. the Hi Mileage Mobil One may have some cleaning properties the regular synthetic does not have...

I may be an exception rather than the rule, but, I got about 200k MILES out of my starter, I proactively changed the brushes in it at 180k miles and then at about 210k miles, it finally crapped out on my ,..... the solenoid had an issue... Thanks for the tip and the discussion, but, how does this affect the actual operation of the vehicle ? Great that it passes emsissions, but how does the engine computer now change settings to accomodate for the "new" data sent by the post O2 sensor... does it compensate by running too rich...
