Same engine as in my wife's Camry. We usually average 27mpg...60%city driving.However, this engine seems to like the highway. The best mpg we have had was a 400 mile interstate trip that returned 35.5 mpg while cruising 70-75mph.

I'll reserve my opinions about the new Vibe and its gas mileage until some "real world" results are posted. The new Vibe is heavier, but not by that much. Not everyone is looking for a higher performance (GT) model; some of us consider mpg's more important.

Personally, I'd get an '07. The '09 Vibe is a new model (well, more of a refresh) and I doubt there will be many rebates early on. Besides that, this current generation of Vibes has more than proven themselves in regards to reliability and owner satisfaction.

HAHA. It does resemble Homer Simpson in that shot. In reality, I never thought it was a bad looking vehicle though. Ford can at least feel good about offering a Hybrid SUV that actually delivers good mileage. They need to focus on doing the same to the Fusion.

Congratulations...If I get another Vibe, it will be a manual. I parted with my Vibe for financial reasons and ended up with an '02 Protege. The Protege is decent, but near as fun to drive. Good luck with the car; you made a good choice.

I saw a new Malibu on the lot as well. IMHO, the Camry and Altima do not even begin to compare, at least in appearance. GM looks like they did their homework on this model and hopefully will attract a lot of new customers. This car certainly looks much better in person.

In another post, I explained that my Check Engine Light came on last week and the transmission was shifting hard. Ends up that the computer (PCM)had to be replaced. With only 12k miles on the car, I am not impressed. Anyone else ever have PCM issues?

Sorry, but after dealing with this issue and the wife's '04 Camry starter problems (at 30k), I personally am not convinced of Toyota's superior quality. At this rate, I suppose that I could expect one major/semi-major mechanical issue with Toyota vehicles before they hit 30k.

Check your tire pressure and try different brands of gasoline. I use Shell gasoline in my '06 automatic Vibe and average 30mpg combined. Last tank was 32.

I almost bought a G6 when shopping (for my Vibe). Awesome deals were available at the time and I like the looks of the car (minus chrome whell covers). However, it came down to the best mpg and the Vibe easily won out.
