It has been another 15 months, and I still can't add (re-add) my avatar.
I would sure like to be cool like joatmon and get my avatar back.
Can you assist me with that request?
Pretty Please?
This still happens but is manageable for me. I check for new posts first, read them, then I go back to the main forum page. There I see more highlighted new posts that are older, so I click and read them. It would be nice to see all new posts when I hit the "new posts" button in quick link...
These cars would be much more difficult to maintain without the Toyota parts availability. The Toyota parts guys here know a Vibe is the same as a Matrix, but I always have to give them Toyota part numbers, or have them look up the Toyota part number by description. One way around that is to tell th...
Tires were P205/55R16 on alloy and steel 16" wheels from the factory. I see nothing in documentation that states differently. Owners may have installed different sized tires later on. Lug nuts ARE different on steelies vs. alloy. For steel wheels, the nut is plated, is lug centric (angled on th...
I too registered the other day. I think I'm participant #4. At least under "Auto ID" it has "004" there. If that is what that means. Looking forward to this meet again ;) Did you book a hotel room? Closest / best price I found was the Holiday Inn Express in Chesterfield. I didn'...
Hello CG, Welcome to the super quiet GenVibe website. I know nothing about 2nd gen cars, I am a 1st gen guy. However, a differential is the same in both gens. Yes, both tires need to spin the same direction at the same time, thats how the car moves on the ground. When you spin one tire and the...
Welcome to the forum, fellow Iowan! And welcome to Vibes. They can be addictive. I did the same thing for my daughter. Purchased a Frosty White 2003 and fixed everything. I liked it so much I bought a well optioned Lava Red 2006 AWD for myself after I gave her the '03. She wrecked the '03 3 times, w...
I agree with Andrew that your "second overdrive " is actually your torque converter lockup. If you only hear the tick in lockup it may be because the engine noise is much lower in lockup. You may be hearing something that is always there at a low level you don't notice until the engine noi...
I probably should have used the word quiet instead of smooth. If your belt is worn or contaminated it usually makes excessive noise. If your tensioner is worn it can cause various noises in the belt area. All 4 of the Vibes I have owned, 140k thru 190k miles, sounded much better after a belt / tensi...
When you replace the alternator it contains the voltage regulator also. Be careful where you source the replacement alternator from, and confirm the warranty. Also, I would replace the belt (clean all of the pulleys), and the tensioner if it is still original with 180k miles. I always enjoy how smoo...
Welcome to the site.
Try it in neutral. May be the nuetral safety switch.
Try tapping the starter with a hammer. It may be on a dead spot on the armature,
Are your headlights bright?
Do they dim way down when you try to start it?
You can purchase the Weathertech mat for the same year Corolla.
The Corolla has the same floor plan as our Vibes.
I have 2 sets.
You need to option them with the rear floor vent bump, it asks you on the site.
I love them.
If the fan speed sounds the same when the air flow changes you probably have a blend door problem.
There are 2 doors, hot / cold and recirculate.
I would check the operation of the doors and actuators.
Maybe something is broken or disconnected.
Just something else to consider....
The neutral safety switch is a module on the outside front of the transmission, where the shift cable connects. If it has a problem the starter will not run. The crank trigger pickup is down there also on the passenger side by the balancer. If it has a problem the engine will not run. The oil pressu...
I don't have a GT, but it should be the same as a Matrix XRS. Looks like the part number is 46504-20070 for a Matris w/xrs left rear. Here is one source: https://toyotaparts.nucar.com/parts/toyota-2000-2008-toyota-backing-plate-4650420070?origin=pla&gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAjw7s20BhBFEiwABVI...
Glad to hear they did the right thing. If you want facts, invest in a factory service manual. They are a little spendy, but most of the answers to most problems are buried in those pages. Please continue to update this thread with your repair progress. Did you perform the reset / initialization proc...
That is true, 03-08 vibes use the anti-lock sensors to activate the TPMS light. There are no "in tire" sensors on these years. Ask the mechanic for the old sensors. He won't be able to produce them because they never existed. Then ask for a refund. Let us know how it goes. I hate shady mec...
If everything was working fine before, and the problem started after a battery replacement,
you may have a battery cable(s) that failed after you moved the cables while replacing the battery.
I've seen it before.
Are the cables soft and flexible, or stiff and crackly?
Sounds like you may have / had an air pocket in the cooling system.
The fan should start to run when the coolant temp reaches the temp sensor threshold.
There is a pressure switch in the A/C system that can go bad and cause the fan to run immediately when the A/C is turned on.
Sounds reasonable.
All 3 of the Vibes I've owned have needed a tensioner.
I never had a power steering problem, but none of mine we GT's either, all 1zz.
Can you duplicate it in the driveway and watch the belt / pulleys?

NGK or Denso only for my Vibes.
This, but reverse order for me.
Denso first choice.
Also, the Denso plug threads are pre-lubed, so the head threads should be clean and dry for proper torque.
Hello Brigette, I am no expert on Vibe pricing, but I do watch the online sales, and have purchased 3 Vibes in the last 4 years. The mileage is just at that point where I would have to have a good reason to buy it. The front end damage (core support bent) and non matching re-paint are also a negativ...
Welcome to the site.
Try searching for the same seal on a 2010 Toyota Matrix.
I think XRS is the comparable model to the GT.
You should be able to find one fairly easily.
Good Luck!
New year, new request: Hello Admins, I wanted to update my avatar today, but could not complete the task. I thought deleting the existing avatar would allow me to add a new one. Instead I have no avatar now and can't add one. Is there a problem with my account or is the problem with the site? Either...
That's a nice looking GT, just the little boo-boo on the left rear. Wheels look good, as does under hood. Seems to be a very low amount of corrosion. Are there holes inside the rear wheel wells on the front bottom corner? (common rust point) Price seems fair for the low mileage. Someone here was loo...
OK. I just read my owners manual more thoroughly and it confirms the TPMS uses the ABS system. So, you confirm you don't have ABS, or the TPMS reset button, just the low tire warning light on the dash, which is a TPMS feature. Then the only thing I can think of is the TPMS reset button "wire&qu...
Questions
:
What is your asking price?
What is the Color of the exterior?
Cloth or leather seats?
Moon & Tunes?
What other options is is equipped with?
Can you post some photos of the GT?
Also, you state that your Vibe does not have ABS, but I will bet it does.
The TPMS button was only installed on Vibes that had ABS.
You should have a mass of brake lines connected to the ABS controller on the passenger fender well under the hood.
I looked it up for you now. Page 332 of the 2006 owners manual: Do not reset (initialize) the system without first correcting the cause of the low-tire condition. If thes ystem is reset when the tire pressures are incorrect, the system will not function properly and might not alert you when a tire is...
Your Vibe uses a cheap form of TPMS with the ABS brake sensors checking for the same amount of rotations of each tire. If a tire goes low it will rotate faster and trip the TPMS light. After it is tripped you must reset it. (at least I had to on mine) I think the reset process is in your owners manu...
