Need rear differential for ‘09 AWD

Post by PAL419 »

Hi, original owner with 56K. Dealer claims the noise we just noticed is the rear diff. Confirmed by local transmission shop. Obviously discontinued part, trying to find used right now. Any suggestions? Thanks

Hello,
I have two 2006 AWD vibes.
I have heard that the 1st gen and 2nd gen rear differentials are the same except the 2nd gen has electric coupling instead of friction / hydraulic coupling.
If that is true, there is a diff for sale on Facebook marketplace for $400:

Otherwise, check car-parts.com for the part you need.
After you replace it, check the rear fluid level at each oil change.

Thanks but that’s not gonna work for us. Found and ordered another 1 online elsewhere.

NOTE: This Facebook post claims this will fit the vibe/matrix. From what I’ve heard, read and researched that is not the case. That part is not interchangeable.

Good that you found one, hope it works out. Where did you order from?

Any idea why yours failed after only 56K miles?

Premium Auto Parts, Inc. an online company in CA. $$$
No idea why? Very upset since in ‘24 had the front and rear differential fluids changed along with the driveshaft output seal replaced by the dealer $$$. Now a year later the differential goes at 56K and since it’s a discontinued part they can’t fix it so we had to search for used. Very p’d off.
