You're finding out what happens when a model and make are discontinued. As far as GM is concerned, Pontiac and the Vibe are the past, since the Vibe is majority a Toyota, GM can "brush it off" and let Toyota handle it. :) When I bought the car in Alberta (AB) in '09, I compared it with on...
cheers vibenvy, I appreciate your taking the time to research that, looks like I will need to visit the wreckers, namely for the foglamps, my insurance will cover the cost of a base model bumper, I foot the rest of the bill ( for the GT version. The two look a close match, hopefully everything lines...
Will a GT bumper fit properly on a Base model? My bumper has been doing its job and I have asked parts guys at a couple different GM dealerships but they can't figure it out. I know I would need to buy a GT lower grille (honeycomb-like) and some fog lights if was to make the change. The wheel well l...
Hello Vibers Been away for a while (not a taxpayers expense), and have found out a couple of things regarding parts. It pays to go to Toyota before you buy at GM. 1) Windshield Wiper Blades - They will sell the just rubber strip if you like, you change it out cost $10 2) Block Heater - GM $160 Toyot...
Compression test on all cylinders would tell you something about whether or not oil is slipping past your piston rings. The gauge could be bought at an auto parts store for probably less than 1hr shop labour.
Read the manual saw a post or two here about it, got myself out of wheel spin a few times by pressing it once but this video made it more clear, hope it helps. The lights are changed up somewhat, from what I see on mine with the same sequence i.e. when the Corolla shows TRAC OFF, I see the slippery v...
My car has what was installed at factory and dont feel like gambling with a $100+ engine scan at a dealership to tell me whether or not there's any updated versions as I'm hoping there's improved DFCO logic that can resolve my near idle stalling woe's.My thinking is since there's a flash for DFCO pr...

When slowing to a stop idle revs sometime drops to 500 or less for a second or two and engine shakes.I know of at least 5 folks encountering this.I think it may be Deceleration Fuel Cut-Off DFCO related (see see the 2011 2ZR-FE issue below). No codes and engine runs great otherwise.Throttle Body face...

After watching a Youtube video of someone filming their speedo in a Prius at said speed I noticed their tach was in the mid-teens, my car in 5th is @ 2700, cool gearbox, me wants that ratio
I recently disconnected the battery for access to a fallen item and have been so far pleased that after noticing the engine relearn the idle revs this puzzling business of the engine wallowing below the warmed up idle revs of ~750 RPM to temporarily a somewhat shaky 500 when finishing a downshift ou...

Some recent Toyotas require synthetic within this pulldown listhttp://www.toyota.com/owners/p....htmlOil change intervals for 0w-20 at 10k mi or 16k kms!

Its helpful I think to see what level the technicians operate at whether trainee or journeyman for when I need repairs performed (i.e. if they're unable to perform a simple oil change competently...)I'm positive that when repairs are required once my warranty has expired it will go to a Toyota deale...
Well it would have been x10 worse had I not popped the hood prior to taking it off the lot... The tech left the filler cap off and in a filthy space on the firewall near the cabin air intake. He also took it for a small test drive with predictive results of bathing the engine bay. I was set to hit t...

Synthetic @ almost twice the price, if a person can run it for 16,000 kms or 6mos, then the engine and the wallet benefits. You got some at Dino-mite-price!I'll be sticking with any good quality 5W-20 Dinos that are on sale. Good Stuff! Cheers man
Good review, all my curiosities satisfied, cheers I spent some time a while back reading BITOG posts and my opinion based on what I've read for 0W-20 is that it will flow more like warmed oil until it reaches operating temperature, at which time theres no real difference between it and 5W-20 or 10W-...
Whats your findings when using 0W-20 compared to 5W-20 (any brand)? Anything from startup, idle right through the performance band as well as fuel economy right to its appearance during the draining would be most interesting
THanks! BTW "CarShaft-Circles"? I dont get it?That GM4718M that the 0W-20 meets is a higher standard than GM6094M, but am wondering does it focus on high-performance (high temp) and perhaps omit some 6094 tests like cold weather properties...
Hello star_deceiverMobil's 0W-20 is on the GM4718M list.I'm not going to use any Mobil oil, some who think they can depend on its protection by name alone may be deceived!! Do NOT use Mobil 1 5W-20 Full Synthetic in 2009+ Vibes. It is NOT an approved oil because it FAILS to meet GM6049M standard which basically means cold weather performance. To me that screams this oil has been around long enough and fails where oils you probably never heard of pass! SHEEEEEEYITTT!rof...
It looks like GM will fix the issue for our Vibe's Toyota accelerator pedal. http://media.gm.ca/content/med...cVibeIn this video news clip the guy says "the spring will also get a little bit stiffer" which for me will be welcome because its way too soft for my liking, combined with such a ...
set your hand brake, then start applying gas while letting out the clutch, release the hand brake. Using this technique is economical as well whenever your car starts to roll when you start off.
I contacted Mobil through their website about 0W-20 AFE Advanced Fuel Economy and they provided me with a contact in Burnaby as Im moving there soon, its through Imperial Oil, you know they have a refinery there. P/N 597702
Was trying to decipher this article to see if it applies to the Vibe with its Toyota designed engine (not GM like this article applies). Using cruise on downgrades the cruise control wouldn't interfere by metering in fuel? I'd be inclined to cancel cruise going up or down hill depending on the grade...
During a recent trip in my Vibe I was pleasantly surprised that I didnt lose power during this one high altitude flat stretch that would always have me pressing the pedal to the floor in both my 4-speed MT '95 Metro or '81 Civic. Sweet Those were .75L and 1.1L engines. The Vibe is heavier but I have...

Maybe someone could post the RPMs at the shift points of Automatics with 1.8L engines. Im curious because Id like to shift at the most economical revs. Hope this isnt hijacking as it seems the OPs questions have been addressed OK.
Ive read many a dipstick but this one on my '09 is vague. Ive tried checking it 5 min after shutdown and also when its completely cold. Yes I wipe it clean and re-insert it... The thing is that there is a solid line of oil across it a 1/3 of the way up from the first dimple from the second. But then...
