2009 Vibe Front Bumper Replacement

Post by zoomie »

Will a GT bumper fit properly on a Base model?

My bumper has been doing its job and I have asked parts guys at a couple different GM dealerships but they can't figure it out.

I know I would need to buy a GT lower grille (honeycomb-like) and some fog lights if was to make the change.

The wheel well liner may be different, I need to contact GM and compare the parts pics of those.

From what I have found on GMPartsCenter.net, you will need the following parts:

1. GT front bumper cover - #88975666
2. GT fog light assembly - #88975670
3. GT lower grille - #88975669
4. GT lower extensions - right: #88975664 / left: #88975665 (each lower extension includes mounting nuts)
5. GT outer grilles - right: #88975667 / left: #88975668

The wheel well liners ("fender liners" according to GM) are actually the same. The only thing I couldn't find that may possibly be different is some or all of the plastic covers that are on the underside of the engine. These could be different since your Base has the 1.8L and GTs have the 2.4L. To be sure about what exactly you would need for this swap, I would contact GMPartsCenter.net.

Your best bet would be to find a 2009-2010 Vibe GT in a junkyard and grab all the front end parts of it. Buying everything new through GM would obviously cost alot more.

cheers vibenvy, I appreciate your taking the time to research that, looks like I will need to visit the wreckers, namely for the foglamps, my insurance will cover the cost of a base model bumper, I foot the rest of the bill ( for the GT version.

The two look a close match, hopefully everything lines up when the bodyshop slaps it together. :?

You're very welcome ;)! It seems that everything is the same structurally and that the only differences are obviously cosmetic.

Be sure to let us know how the repair goes and post some before and after pictures ;)!

I saw a complete GT bumper on e-bay recently. May want to look there.
