'03 Vibe was fairly quiet considering how much it cost. New '09 Matrix AWD transmits more road noise than the old Vibe did. Toyota really cut a lot of cost in the sound deadening department.

My cousin used to live in England and would drive his Passat back to Poland. It sucked because he couldn't pass since he couldn't see. He decided to just drive behind other cars and not pass.

We'll need more accurate description. My wife's Matrix AWD exhibits slight vibration at idle. It is cold now, so the rubber engine mounts are harder and will transmit more vibrations into the cabin. If the tachometer needle is steady, then what you are experiencing is normal.

You see upper 20s on highway. 22-24 mixed driving. AWD kills the efficiency, but being able to floor it in the snow and take off like a bat out of hell makes me forget about the mediocre fuel consumption.

When I owned '03 Vibe, I went to Toyota dealer to by a cabin filter. It did not fit. I had go to a GM dealership. I'm not sure if the same is true for the new ones.

I bought ceramic pads from Tire Rack (Akebono) when doing brakes on our Vibe. They provided a ton of initial bite and felt like the car could stop on a dime. When the brakes go on our Matrix, I'll be looking into those.

The cargo cover came with our Matrix. We had to ask the dealer to throw in floor mats. The cargo cover is a flimsy piece of crap and worth 20 bucks.

My wife's AWD Matrix gets 26mpg highway (mostly highway with some city driving) at 70mph and 16mpg city. Her city driving consists of a 5 mile drive to work. It's also cold out and the car has 1500 miles on the odo.

My wife's old car ('03 Vibe base w/ auto) was always getting 22-23mpg in city driving. Her job is only 5 miles away. Her new car ('09 Matrix AWD) is getting even worse fuel economy, but it also has less than 1k miles and bigger engine.

I will repeat myself. Vibe = Matrix. Toyota's ESC cannot be completely turned off. It's always been this way for years. It's not like they did that recently. That's why you're Vibe's ESC can't be defeated. Please stop whining about it.

The new 2.4 with AWD is very peppy. Even with the 4spd auto. The fuel economy is good. One can easily beat the EPA estimate. The extra weight of AWD is not really felt. Toyota did a decent job with the car. Huge improvement over 1st generation.

Toyota uses H11 bulbs, so Vibe would use those too. I'm planning on getting H11 bulbs in Europe since I'm here and they're cheaper.

Turbo creates a lot of pressure to force air through the intercooler. Intercooler creates good amount of pressure drop. Trying to suck air through it is going to suffocate your engine. Then there is the cost. Intercooler and piping will cost you few hundred bucks, while a CAI will be less than 200. ...

With the new engine my wife changed her driving habits, since she doesn't have to nail the accelerator anymore. The fuel economy is beating the old car even with only 250miles on the odo. Loving this car.

The Vibe is gone and picked up Sundace Metallic '09 Matrix AWD. It's almost fully loaded. It has the mid grade stereo with 6disc changer. This car improved on pretty much every weekness of the original. The only thing they screwed up on is by creating more blind spots. The A and C pillars are thick....

Changed the actuator. It took me longer to remove the two tiny bolts than to remove the dash. It's all good now.

What about the 12V socket? I did a search, but got nothing.Edit: Ordered the actuator. Hopefully I'll have it this week so I can replace it on saturday. From the other thread I noticed that at the same time I can eliminate noises that have been annoying me for a while.

I do have a moonroof, but I think it's highly unlikely that that is the culprit. I have driven the car in heavy rain without any problems. This was the only time where I drove through deep puddles. I suspect the fresh air intake allowed the water to get inside.

Water leak

Few weeks ago we had heavy rain and I drove the Vibe through some deep water. When I got home I noticed water dripping from the bottom of the dash into the foot well area on both sides. Any idea how the water got inside? Cabin air intake maybe?

Are the Matrix and Vibe front brake rotors the same? I find that Pontiac dealerships like to charge an arm and a leg for parts while Toyota is pretty reasonable.
