HVAC issues and other problems I need help with

Post by SinisterMind »

Over the weekend I got into the car on the passenger side since my wife was driving. The vents were directed to blow air right into my face, but since I have contact lenses I can't have that. I closed both vents and next thing I hear is popping noise from the dash. Sounds like the flaps (or whatever you call them) that redirect air are flopping around. The noise reminds me of plastic gears that a stripped and are skipping. The noise goes away when the recirc button is pressed. This is driving me nuts. Also, I know there is a TSB for the cigarette lighter pulling out of the dash. What is the fix though? Do I just need to buy a new cig lighter? Thanks in advance

Thanks. Had no idea it was a common problem.

What about the 12V socket? I did a search, but got nothing.Edit: Ordered the actuator. Hopefully I'll have it this week so I can replace it on saturday. From the other thread I noticed that at the same time I can eliminate noises that have been annoying me for a while.

Quote, originally posted by rasermon »Quick fix: Make sure the In-Dash Cigarette Lighter assemble is back in place, then turn the entire assembly to the right or left so it will lock in position. Now you can remove your lighter without the whole darn assembly coming out. From http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=1938

Changed the actuator. It took me longer to remove the two tiny bolts than to remove the dash. It's all good now.
