I got my 6 speed from Monkey Wrench Racing. I highly recommend them. They are located in SE Michigan.

Re: 03 Base Vibe Parts wanted

I have a cluster from an 03. From when I swapped mine to the 04 style. The only problem with it is the needles are removed. I found that if you do this is is not as simple as sticking them back on. I had to fiddle around with needle positions. The gas was the hardest to get dialed back in. If you wi...

Re: cruise control and cables

I recently installed factory cruise on my 2003 base. It is not quite as simple as swapping over the parts you describe. That said I do still have my original non-cruise throttle cable if you are interested. $5 plus shipping. Also, just remembered this. I have the back of the steering wheel with no h...

How would you feel about the whole gear shift mech lens and all? I have one out of an 03 base that only has about 3k miles worth of wear on it. I can provide pictures if you are interested.

Re: Wanting to make the manual windows and door locks power

I've actually done this. Anyone that's been on here since 2003 might recall my posts. Got my 2003 base vibe as a wreck and the parts car had PL/PW and the other did not. All I can tell you is that it was a great learning experience. Would I do it again? No way.... I had basic understanding of wiring...

Re: (Sublimewind)

Yeah, I tried using single strands of copper wire to jump the gap but the area to work with is just too small even with my needle point iron tip. My last attempt to fix it consisted of longer pieces of small gauge insulated wire that ran from one side of the board to the other. Besides being ugly an...

There is a large aluminum plate that is held on with 5 or 6 small screws. I believe this is a heat sink that contacts 2 electronic components on the main circuit board. If the thermal paste between them has deteriorated that may cause the over heating. As for the buzzing, I'm not sure. Could be a si...

I drilled up from the bottom side of the metal case. Did it to mount a bracket to hold the AUX jack from being pushed back into the HU. If I had only damaged 1 or 2 traces I easily could have jumped them with some fine wire. However 8 traces got blown away in this act of shear genius.

Do NOT do this...

So, I was all excited to do the AUX input mod on my stereo and near the end got too excited and didn't think things through. I ran a sheet metal screw to hold bracket I made to keep the jack in place on the front of the stereo. I was lazy and didn't feel like taking the time to pull the faceplate of...

LED swaps - a/c and recirc buttons

Recently had to do some work on the a/c - recirc switch in my 03. Got to thinking why are these LED's green when the rest of the dash is red. So I set out to change them. Got some 3mm red LED's from a local electronics shop, installed them and they don't work. I am going to try some different resist...

Re: Blower motor stops/starts from vibration (frost04)

Recently had mine out to clean the fan. I tipped it over and a lot of powderized rust fell out. Had I been able to get both the screws out I would have done a proper cleaning. So I imagine my blower motors days are numbered. Glad you got yours replaced OK. Where did you get the replacement from?

Re: Getting doors to lock while open (Thunderscreech)

There is a white box under the dash on the drivers side that is the control center for the power locks. I know this because I installed the factory power lock system on my 2003 Vibe. Short of doing some kind of hack on that control box I do not see any way of changing this "feature". Sorry...

Re: Installing a hands-free phone mic (shrout1)

I installed a mic in my vibe for bluetooth. Remove A pillar just snaps in. That will give you enough access along the side of the dash to snake the cable down. I took a coat hanger with a slight curve bent in it and taped the plug end of the mic wire to it and carefully fish it down through the hole...

Shifter movement

Since having my 5 speed transmission rebuilt last summer my shifter jumps when I let of the gas. Seems like it is going to come out of gear at times, never has though. So in second and third gears, the ones on the bottom of the shift pattern, let off the gas shifter jumps forward or hit the gas shif...

Finally got it figured out. Turns out both of the switches I had were malfunctioning. Was able to do the repair myself with a couple resistors and capacitors. Soldering on that thing is tricky though. Had to be very careful to not melt the plastic! Thanks to Joatmon for the replies.

Re: Air Conditioning - I have searched extensively for info. (joatmon)

No it does not stay in on either switch that I have. The recirc button does though. As far as the a/c coming on with the defrost. I just went out and tested the defrost and it sounds like the compressor is kicking in and the RPM's drop a little, as expected.I'm taking that as a good sign that nothin...

I have an 03 base vibe that is having a/c issues. When I press the a/c button the LED lights up then goes out unless I hold it in. If I hold it I can here the compressor engage and If I hold it long enough it starts to cool down. Here is a list of what I have done so far. Replaced M/G CLT relay. Had R...
