Wanting to make the manual windows and door locks power

Post by JRS »

It was definitely not my original intention to buy a vibe that did not have power windows or door locks on it, yet the price was almost 30 percent below value and in great condition. I plan on installing an alarm in the next few weeks which will help some. I am wondering if there are any suggestions on trying to install power windows and door locks on an 05 Vibe? Thanks ahead of time

There are some posts on here about it. Most of the aftermarket kits are junk IMO. The only right way to do it would be to pull the power window parts from a junk Vibe, Matrix or even Corolla and get the correct switches and wires and hook it all up. But unless you find a steal of a deal, you are probably talking $500+ or much more for all the parts. New window regulators, locks, wiring, switches, trim panels, etc. and then you still have the window crank holes in the door panels unless you get the power door panels too. Overall, $$$$$$

What I would do, install the alarm and see if you can add on the power locks since they are much easier to install aftermarket. But even then, you would have to run the wires and hook everything up to make it work on each door.

Thanks for your info. It will be a lot of work for the power windows. I think I am going to start with the alarm and decide from there. Thanks again

I would go aftermarket door locks. as thats what i had done on my moms vibe with a car alarm. mine has power all. hers does not. Ive also had a fue cars come into my work with aftermarket power windows so i have been thinking about putting them in my moms for her windows. Here is a link to the ones im looking it. you can prob get cheaper ones tho.

I've actually done this. Anyone that's been on here since 2003 might recall my posts.

Got my 2003 base vibe as a wreck and the parts car had PL/PW and the other did not. All I can tell you is that it was a great learning experience. Would I do it again? No way.... I had basic understanding of wiring diagrams at the beginning and that wasn't quite enough. My Dad told a couple different mechanics/body shop guys that he knows what I was up to and they thought I was crazy. In the end I was successful and everything works pretty much the way it should. Master switch is always hot, works even without the key in the ignition. This is kinda handy actually. The right rear switch is always hot as well. Also the hazard lights do not flash when locking/unlocking with the key fob. I just have to listen for the locks to click. This is because I did not connect the wire from the relay control box to the instrument cluster. At the time I was thinking why the heck is that necessary? Now I know...

I can't even imagine the cost of buying all the parts to do this job. Like I said, I already had most of them. Had to purchase a fob, master switch, drivers door lock and window regulator. At the time my uncle worked at a Pontiac dealership so he got me the diagrams I needed. I seriously wish I still had them. I would scan and share with anyone on here that needs them.

Welcome. As TRB noted this is a doable task BUT only if you have the resources and time. I've converted many cars that were barebones base into nice luxury interiors. If you ever see an earlier Chevette(almost 30 years ago) with pw/pl it is my work 8-) Anyways try to obtain as many parts as possible from the same wrecked Vibe/Matrix. This way the cost will be lower and the compatibility better. All of the jobs that I've done I made sure the window switches were wired to a constant 12v hot. You'll appreciate this in the long run. I hope you perform this "upgrade" and let us know how it ends up. Good luck
