Is the thermostat installed backwards? Is the heater core plugged? Is the gauge reading incorrectly? 3 WAG's is all that I can come up with for now.

2009 Engine Oil Refill Amounts

Found a 2009 Matrix owners manual, and it states the following oil refill amounts with a filter change on page 395. http://www.scribd.com/doc/4131...anual2.4L 2AZ-FE 4.0 quarts1.8L 2ZR-FE 4.4 quarts The dipstick in my 2.4L reads at the top hash mark with 4 quarts and a new filter.

WD 40, PB B'laster, or any penetrating oil and some light tapping on the lug nuts does wonders for rusted studs. Head to Harbor Freight and get a $20 torque wrench, it'll help prevent over tightening. Busted studs aren't the most fun work projects.

The 09 manual specifies Dexcool, put I'm 99% sure that the factory coolant is Toyota Long Life Antifreeze, which is pink colored. Whoever wrote the GM manual probably copied and pasted a lot.

If your Vibe isn't going anywhere today, why not try the classic fix of disconnecting the battery for a while and reconnecting it. The idea is to reset the ECM, and steering control module, and all of the other brain boxes. Don't cost nuthin'

With a 2.4L '09, the dipstick will read exactly at the top full mark. These various filters have been used, and the reading has always been the same. Last summer using Shell 10% ethanol three consecutive tank fulls, the MPG ranged from 24 to 25.5. The usual straight gas yields form 25.5 to 27 MPG. No more E-10 for me.

I should have said the rubber seal that is attached the the outer edges if the sunroof frame, instead of weatherstripping. What you need to look for is rust underneath the seal, mine had surface rust all the way around the edges of the frame that encloses the glass. FWIW, the car is parked outside 4...

Sorry, no pictures available. If you roll the roof back a foot or so, reach up and push the forward edge of the weatherstripping up, and the frame will be visible underneath. Mine was rusted all the way around its frame. The Pontiac warranty site states that "All body and sheet metal components...

With an AWD, most likely not. That being said , I really like the General Altimax Arctic tires on my 09 FWD model. New all season tires would get you through the next 3 winters, IMHO.

Could the Exhaust Gas Recirculation valve be stuck or clogged somehow? If the oil cap is off, the engine would vent the fumes instead of recirculating them. Just a guess, though.

My Vibe attained 32.2 MPG with 650 Lbs. of payload on a road trip to see the NFL Aint's VS the Lambs on a November road trip . At 65 MPH and passing , when necessary.

Casey's General Store is the place; in Iowa the specific grades must be marked accordingly. I talked to the tanker driver unloading there to confirm that 87 octane is 100% gas. Sam's Club up here has a couple of 100% gas pumps as well. I'm not sure if that is the case in Illinois.

The last tank full yielded 24.1 MPG, 50/50 city / hwy on 100% gas, no ethanol. It's an automatic.

It sounds like an EGR valve. It could also be the throttle body getting stuck out of position from carbon build up.

Had the opportunity to try them in the loose and packed snow, they are much better than the all seasons. It still was possible to break traction, but that took some doing. Highly recommended for the increased stopping power alone.

If you're going to use Chevron Techron, Advance Auto has the 20 oz. bottles on sale ; 2 for the price of 1. Seafoam added to the gas unclogged a fouled injector on an 02 Buick with the 3800 V6, wouldn't have believed it unless I experienced it.

Mine gets synthetic Pennzoil Platinum 5W-20, along with a Fram Extended Guard filter every 3 months. When the warranty is up, it'll be 6 month intervals.

The NOV 09 issue of CR gives only one excellent rating for low noise. It's an all season performance Kuhmo Solus KH 16. The General Altimax Arctic tires were rated #2 by Consumer Reports, FWIW. I bought a set of 205/55/16's for a 2009 2.4L. They ran $130 each total at the local tire guys I use.
