Found a 2009 Matrix owners manual, and it states the following oil refill amounts with a filter change on page 395. http://www.scribd.com/doc/4131...anual2.4L 2AZ-FE 4.0 quarts1.8L 2ZR-FE 4.4 quarts The dipstick in my 2.4L reads at the top hash mark with 4 quarts and a new filter.
A 440 page owners manual for the Matrix!I wonder what the 1.8L's really get - especially if the dealer is opening cans of 0-20W. So maybe we with 1.8L's are 10% low from the git go. The stuff that hangs up in the motor probably balances out the stuff that hangs up in the cans. In Canada they probably have 1 liter cans - about 5% more than a qt.

Either way, 4 and a half small bottles fills it to a little over the top dot. Pouring the 5L jug is a little less precise but I always fill it a little over the top dot. The remaining oil get's poured into another 5L jug... when it's full I get a free oil change... sort of...

I do the same thing with the 5 quart jugs of Penzoil I buy at Walmart. Having two Vibes I get a "free" oil change faster and more often which is pretty sweet !
