I suppose it makes sense, but the fog lights go off when the highbeams go on. Driving the backroads, I'd really like to have both. But then maybe it's good to try to keep people from using highbeams in the fog.
My kids are 3 & 6 - so I had to get a 4 door car. And for adults, the back seat is better than a high floor SUV.My son loves watching the NAV system screen, even when puttering around town. I had to use the NAV for real last week: we get very thick fog in this part of California, and taking kids...
I set mine to 25mph in a speed trap nearby (bunch of expensive houses with a straight road and not much traffic). It seems strange, but it keeps me from getting a ticket.
I thought it was just me; well, my Vibe does have a distinct fumes odor when first started, but I usually run without recirc and so have not smelled anything even when giving it gas. I had a different problem with the A/C musty smell, and removing the air filter and spraying Lysol (then replacing fi...
I'm OK. Yes, I am frustrated. Where I live, there are people out of work because of the guys who think $150,000 is not enough. And I would really like to get more automotive engineering projects (I'm a mechanical engineer making ALOT less than 150k). I've been to NUMMI a few times, and I've done som...
Saddam is happy and lots of people in my neighborhood are out of work. Truck drivers mostly. But the LOF plant where NUMMI gets the glass, Arvin Meritor plant for exhaust system and fuel tank, Dana for axles, and even the POSCO steel plant are going to be closing doors soon. With California rolling ...
I read that Vibe production stops at midnight today. Seems rather un-patiotic to cost the economy 1 billion per day; that's like destroying a Sears Tower in Chicago each day.Has the price gone up yet for Vibes on the dealer lots?
I just checked mine a couple days ago. Lots of dust in it. I took it out so I could spray Lysol in the intake and kill the mildew smell in the ducts, then I cleaned it and put it back in.
I had a moonroof in my previous car, but I went for NAV instead on my Vibe. I really like the NAV system because of the way it integrates with the Vibe's electronics. If I could have had both, I would have got both.
My NUMMI Vibe (Made in May) already had foam pads on the sheet metal behind the plate. (I just got my plates yesterday - it took two months to get the new CA plates with the USA flag)
Toyota did not have the DVD Nav system available a couple months ago. And I wanted to buy local (made in Fremont, CA - all Matrixes made in Ontario). And I think the Vibe looks better. And Toyota only makes a few option packages - no custom cars, so no chance for me to get just the options I want wi...
2000 miles and no problems. I keep seeing more on the road.If you like computers, I highly recommend the DVD Nav system. Probably best to check the manufactured date on the door post and buy one made in summer 2002 or later.
I use mine all the time because I'm a computer junkie.I've used just about every feature it has. I doubt that many dealers know how to turn it on (you have to insert the DVD, which means you have to have not lost the DVD that comes with the car)Lowell B. Campbell, P.E., Mechanical Engineer CA Lic.No...
I noticed that the bass notes make the plastic door cover vibrate when my stock DVD-Nav CD player is turned up real loud. Other than adding bass reflex, maybe the padding would help.
I agree with all of Aquasax's comments. I'd like to upgrade/add some more features to the DVD-NAV someday. I think the top one has to be the light sensor. It's strange to have the lights come on when it is a 100 degree clear sky sunny day.
Yes, it works. How did you learn about that? Is it in a Vibe service bulletin? The first screen says AVN [OK} and CD-CH2 [OK] - assume those are the two parts of the Delphi system shown at: http://www.delphi.com/images/vpr/ces2002/Toyota-INR.jpgI did find out model# AISIN AW V 168100E & disc V 0...
Have these young offenders ever told you how they defeat the ignition switch? I would hope that the 2003 cars are harder to steal so they would leave them alone. I was thinking a hidden fuel cutoff would be good, but I think with the new fuel injection systems, that thinking doesn't apply anymore.
I finally turned my stock Nav System up loud enough to hear some clicks and pops (no THD problems) and also the plastic inner panels of the door vibrate so much with the bass that they pick up a hum. (Maybe a bass reflex would help?){listening to "Shine" by Newsboys}
It looks like the Vibe is leading the charge for the crossover style. Even Porsche is making a Vibe look-a-like.from WardsAuto.com:Porsche May Sell Every Cayenne, But is That the Point? As if anticipating the debutante's grand entrance, Porsche executives anxiously awaited as we broke from our early...
I've been trying to figure it out. Best guess is to use a CAN programmer on the OBD-II connector left of the brake pedal. (see thread on "I agree" button)
I turned it up all the way to see what would happen. Surprise! - the volume knob does not have a hard stop; it just keeps turning.Don't forget the tweeters in the A-Pillar Door frame (where the side view mirror mounts) That makes two tweeters and four midrange, no sub-woofers. But if it's not loud e...
Try going to:http://www.densocorp-na.com/sitemap/sitemapa.htmlIt seems pretty current for my part of California. What city are you driving in? I think the POI flags will show up if I drive into a big city.
I've just noticed the same thing happening to me. Bright sunny day and the sensor says it's dark. The manual says it can't be turned off, but maybe it can be adjusted?
Mine seems plenty loud. I haven't turned it up all the way yet.Any more power and I would expect you need to take another look at speaker placement. (I run the sound system at church and we play loud rock music).
I don't have the hardware to make the connection. I've seen some cables to connect a laptop to OBD II but I doubt that would have the ability to program a CAN device.
One of the reasons I bought a Vibe is because it shares parts with the Toyota Corolla. The body of the Matrix is very similar, but it is made in Canada only. My Vibe was made in Fremont (about 1 hour away from me) and the windows were made in Lathrop (about 15 minutes away).I would expect that Corol...
I just looked: there is a very well placed OBD II 16-pin connector. It looks just like the picture at http://www.obdii.com/connector.htmlThe Controller Area Network (CAN) pins seem promising. Some generic info on CAN:CAN is a serial bus system especially suited to interconnect smart devices to build ...
It could be able to be programmed remotely. From the picture of the unit (Toyota-INR.jpg), it looks like the bottom circuit board has an empty connector for a ribbon cable that might run somewhere convenient to plug into. That would be so much easier than trying to pull the unit out of my dash.http:...
Actually, the Vibe is more of a modified Toyota RAV4. About the same wheelbase, corolla components, doors, seats, rear cargo cover, speakers, dash, etc. So other than first glance, the sheet metal is very similar.
I will post anything I learn. I asked Delphi for help and have had no response so far. I imagine that a lawyer somewhere has designed that feature and no engineer at Delphi is brave enough to bypass him.
Do car thieves look for a blinking red light anymore?you wrote: (security system indicator (not installed on my Vibe))It seems like someone would have an aftermarket light that could fit into the plastic cover provided.
Actually, I don't think there there are any GM parts or labor on the NUMMI Vibe at all. Even the Pontiac Symbol on the front is used with a different overlay that says "TOYOTA" when the Vibe is sold in Japan as the Voltz. (The Matrix is not sold in Japan)
Funny thing is that here in 100 degree summer Modesto the dealer had 14 Black Vibes, one red and nothing else. Black is a painful color in extreme heat.
As I understand it, the Corolla and the Vibe (which is called Voltz in Japan) are made at NUMMI in Fremont near where I live. The Matrix is made in Canada only, and has some different sheet metal (note the rear window shape). So the Vibe is assembled by the exact same people who build Corollas, and ...
My Silver base vibe has the stock 17" aluminum wheels - looks the same as yours.By the way, any idea what the tire coating is that the dealers put on? It seems like a heavy cosmoline or underbody tar - it made a real mess of my wheels and the sides of my brand new Vibe. I got some on my toes wh...
I noticed that the tire goop put on my tires by the dealer spins off and leaves little brown specs all over the side of my Vibe (and probably on the people following me too). I think tires look better being flat black, not all glossy.
Just got my Vibe last Saturday. I have not seen any other Vibes in Northern CA, except near the car lots where they are going for test drives. I have seen a few of the Matrix.
