Does My OEM Radio Have a Security Anti-theft Code?

Hello Guys! My sister bought a 2004 Vibe three days after I showed her mine 2003 LOL. I noticed that her OEM radio says Anti-Theft under the red blinking light on the radio. My 2003 Vibe has everything that my sister's has except that mine does not say anything about security codes. My radio light still blinks when the Vibe is turned off. It is just that it does not have the Anti-Theft letterings on it. My question is, would my OEM radio need a security/anti-theft code if I ever unplugged the positive battery terminal?? Thanks!

From what I have read here that red blinking light is just a red blinking light. Just like sometimes a cigar is just a cigar.

No issues when we had the battery changed in my son's 06. Just kind of like the alarm signs people have outside their house. Maybe you have one, maybe not.

I was trying to find the code in the owner manual and nothing.

Okay, so when you disconnected your battery, did not the radio lock up and asked you for a security code? I just wanted to find out the easy way instead of the hard one.

Neither your Vibe nor your sister's Vibe have an actual theftlock radio.

Theftlock radios used by GM require a data bus in the car, where the radio is connected to the car's computer and other things. SInce the Vibe is mostly Toyota, there is no GM data bus in the car. GM uses the same basic radio in other cars, enabling the theftlock by changing the radio's programming, but they used a different program for the ones that go in Vibes, one that does not require the data bus.

So, we get a radio that has a red LED that blinks when the car is off. Looks like a theftlock radio, but really no secret that it is just a pretend security device

If you were to buy another OEM radio for your Vibe, be sure it came out of a Vibe or Matrix, because there are GM radios out there that look the same but will not work in a VIbe.

If you were to remove the radio, or disconnect the battery for a year, the only effect on the radio when you hook it back up is that you'll need to set the clock.

The following is straight from my 2007 owner's manual:

I see that in the 07 manual, and while I think the quoted info applies to your 07, I can't testify that it does.

I know first hand that it does apply to 03s, 04s, and 05s. Also, from trb's post above, it applies to 06s.

Nobody has reported any problems with a radio being theftlocked on an 07 in the 18 years since they came out. I would be surprised if your 07 had the data bus infrastructure required to implement GM's theftlock, as that seems like a fairly significant change that nobody here has ever reported before. Also, I often use car-part.com which implements an interoperability reference in their junkyard inventory system, and when I look for 03 radios, the site gives me radios from 03-08

so, while I assume your 07 does not have theftlock, and that the user's manual is wrong, I can't personally guarantee. Maybe some 07/08 owners will chime in with their experiences

I can confirm that the radios do not need a code if you get a replacement that came from a Vibe.
I have changed from single CD to 6CD changer also with no problems.
This is on 03, 05 and 06 Vibes.

I replaced the head unit with another of the same part number.

No code needed (2007 Vibe).

I installed a radio that looks very much like the Vibe's, except it has a cassette player (I had wanted one in there since we bought it new in 2006). It works 100% fine and looks exactly like the Vibe's stock unit, except it has the cassette player I'd always wanted

I don't know what car it came from, but it likely wasn't another Vibe (as far as I know, no Gen 1 Vibes had a cassette option; I know for certain that the '06 didn't, however). Based on what information I could find, it is probably from a 2000-2002 Bonneville.

So apparently 2000-2002 Bonneville and Gen 1 Vibe radios are interchangeable to a degree?
