Clutch

There are a number of factors that go into the life of a clutch besides driving style. For example, if you live in Nebraska, you aren't going to be making to many hill starts, right? Also, how many other people drive your car? You can't control other people's revs. One other thing I've noticed is the...

Loose storage tub under the shifter.

Hi Folks,The little tub under my shifter is always popping open. Has anyone found a way to keep that sucker closed?I had a 2004 Matrix XR rental a few weeks ago, and that one's little tub would not close at all! I guess the NUMMI guys haven't figured out how to keep these tight either. Thanks for any...

Re: gas mileage (NSimkins)

Just to throw a monkey wrench in the works, I want to put in Arnold's $0.02.Here in Cali we have gas with ethanol in it. This is known as partially oxygenated gasoline. What that means is that the oil companies and the government have been kind enough to burn some of it for you before you've even pu...

Re: Eibach Pro Springs or Progress Sport Springs or ? (Sub-Vibe-R)

I picked up Eibach Pro-kits at Adventon.com They were under $200. Best price I could find anywhere. If you care about giving your car that "lowered cool look" don't by the pro-kit springs. The drop is very subtle. Even parked right next to a stock base Vibe, my GT wasn't obviously lowered. ...

Re: Lowering the cam lift point. (goodvibe)

Goodvibe,I'm with you all the way on this suspension. I call it more "dash" than "flash", but I like your "go" over "show" phrase too. The pro-kits and progress bar cost just under $300. I bought a jack, some stands, and a torque wrench for just over $100. Aft...

Re: performance exhaust question (Psychobroker)

Psychobroker,You got the SB right. If you want a bolt-on exhaust that can easily be put back to stock, drop me a line.As for the false advertising of Borla, etc. It's almost forgivable. The ony break point for a bolt-on exhaust is at the rear axle. The stock cat is welded to the stock resonator. The...

Re: performance exhaust question (Stang2Vibe)

Stang,I wouldn't mind getting into a little CAI vs. Exhaust debate with you. Take a look at my CAI rant on the bottom of this page:http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=6855I put a GMD exhaust on my GT, and I noticed a clear improvement in power throughout the RPM range. Unfortunately my butt-dyno...

Re: Lowering the cam lift point. (Thxalot)

Goodvibe,One more note on CAI. I don't have one either, but my reasons may be a little different from yours. I have messed with intake plumbing on cars I've owned, and they are tricky beasts. The intake lengths are specifically tuned by the manufacturers to induce a pumping effect at certain speeds. ...

Re: Lowering the cam lift point. (goodvibe)

GoodVibe,Interesting and lively debate. Thanks for the link on the Power FC. I'm going to have to read that closely. As for MPG, the EPA has specific requirements during the driving. In fact they are so specific that there are portions where they use full throttle acceleration up to a certain speed (...

Re: Lowering the cam lift point. (goodvibe)

Seems like we've degenerated into two separate threads here. Well I've got something to say for both so here goes:Stang, I think the stock wheels are pretty close to 20 lbs. When I was putting on the new set, I took a moment to use the arms and shoulders scale. The stock set was clearly heavier than...

Re: Lowering the cam lift point. (Stang2Vibe)

Stang,Nice move on the KA3's. I've got the Superleggeras. They were kind of pricey (~$250/wheel) from Tire Rack, but IMO they are worth it. They are some of the lightest cast wheels around at 16lbs for the 17x8. I got them in the gun-metal grey color. Sort of hits a shade exactly in between the sate...

Lowering the cam lift point.

Anybody know of a solution to lower this point? I figure the Celica tuners should have found something by now. It's got to be possible, because several companies make engine CPUs for the S2000 which lower the cam lobe switch-over.-Burt

Re: Strut Tower Brace: Functional or Frivolous? (Stang2Vibe)

Stang2Vibe,I think the best money you can spend is on rubber. Nothing contributes more to handling character than the contact patch. Since all handling forces go through the tires to the road, the tires are key. (FWIW, Vehicle weight is probably just as siginificant.)My GT came with a horrendous set...

Re: Strut Tower Brace: Functional or Frivolous? (MadBill)

Bill,Thanks for the update. I'll keep an eye on this post for the ball-point results. I'd love to see a pic of your car with the big wheels on. You might try some progressive rate springs to cure your bottoming out problems. I put Eibach ProKits on. They handle small bumps better than stock and they...

Re: Strut Tower Brace: Functional or Frivolous? (mistamatrix)

Excellent work MadBill. One question. Are you sure the wood can move the scribe pretty easily? It wouldn't surprise me if the scribe had dug into the aluminum plate a little bit. The down force of the rubber band would keep it fixed in place. We all know that wood will absorb compressive forces bette...

Re: Exactly How big is the Vibe Gas Tank? (Stang2Vibe)

Be careful with measurements from gas station pumps. Some of them cheat. Two weeks ago, I filled up at a Chevron in TX where I got off the 10W to head up to the Carlsbad Caverns. Those *******s rang up 12 gallons, when I know for a fact the car only took 10!I am now boycotting Chevron.Burt

Re: Living with 19's? (MYKIDSGT)

Andrew,I am also looking for some lightweight 18" rims with 225 rubber. What brand/models are you considering?I got one quote on Enkei RS5 wheels (20lb) with Parada 225-40's for $1240 delivered from tires.com. I am reluctant to go with a dual fitment rim though. There are plenty of lighter whee...
