Hi Folks,The little tub under my shifter is always popping open. Has anyone found a way to keep that sucker closed?I had a 2004 Matrix XR rental a few weeks ago, and that one's little tub would not close at all! I guess the NUMMI guys haven't figured out how to keep these tight either. Thanks for any advice,-Burt

It's an inherent quality of molded plastics. No two are ever the same, and they do wear down over time (meaning they don't hold as tightly).Searching for "storage" I found:http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=777
YES!I still visit GenVibe periodically. I have not forgotten about my "original" family over here!
I didn't have any problems with mine until the dealer tore up the shifter console and I had them replace it. After that, it was always opening on its own.Definitely look into what the other thread shows. Quite an annoying problem, but it's fixed very easily. For mine, I simply added two pieces of electrical tape to each leg that is on the bottom of the compartment. Hasn't opened since, unless I make it open!

That's odd. I have a problem of just trying to get it open.

I have this same problem on my 04 Vibe, I never use the compartment, but it keeps falling open whenever I hit a bump or put it in park. Is there a fix for this from GM?

I complained about this rinky-dink latch 2 years ago! My 2003 Vibe had this problem from day 1. I wedge a black, fold-back paper clip under mine, but it doesn't help a lot -- it just keeps it from popping open completely. I bought my car in June 2002.Joie de VivKingston, OntarioSalsa 2-tone
well you can go to GM and get the updated part or simply fix up your own by glueing two small pieces on the bottom by each plastic hinge... one per side so that it causes the storage door to sit up higher therefore allowing the small latch to sit more deeply into its hole and the door will stay closed. Most 04 Vibes, mine anyway have the updated part, the 03 Vibes have the problem... maybe some of the 04s do I don't know but I have fixed up a few 03 Vibes like that and it works.
