So does my Transaxle fluid REALLY need changing at 36K miles ?

2006 Auto, base engine, 36K miles. Running like a top. Local quickie lube place says transaxle fluid is dirty and gritty and should be changed. They recommend taking it to a dealer, so they are not trying to sell me a service. I KNOW if I take it to a dealer, he'll find SOMETHING that needs to be do...

Re: (altimar)

Well, the latest is this. I upped my pressure from 32 to 40 psi. Didn't change anything else. Upped my city only mileage from 21.5 to 22.5. I'm pretty sure it's accurate as I fill to the cap and use the same island at the same station every time. As stated before, My commute is 3 miles one way. In m...

Re: (moongdss)

I upped the tire pressure to 40 psi today. Max listed on the sidewall is 44. Was running about 36. We'll see if it makes any difference.

Re: (isaaclud)

I hear ya man. I feel the same way. Got 22.6 on the last tank after running fuel injector cleaner through the previous tank and changing the air filter. I'm thinking no matter what I do, I'll see 31 highway tops based on my history. I drive like an old lady, do all maintenance on time, and I cleaned...

Re: (schroeder)

So are any of you folks reporting averages of 30 mpg or greater running 17 factory wheels and tires ? I'm looking to add credence to my theory that the larger rims and more specifically wider rubber where it meets the road adversely effects the mileage as compared to the smaller standard 16 inch whe...

Re: (coldmm803)

Well, hearing the 20 to 24 makes me feel a bit better. I changed the air filter and ran fuel injector cleaner on the last tank. This tank was all start and stop city driving. I drive 3 miles to work one way, with about 5 stops. I got 22 on the last tank. I pulled the MAF sensor and checked it when I...

Man, I wonder what gives. Quite a bit of variation. I've never done the whole "clear the brain" deal, i.e. pull the batter cable off for a bit (is there anything else to do), to see if that helps. Should I try, or is it just asking for problems ? I wonder if I have a marginal Catalytic Con...

Re: (Kamikaze)

I just called my dealer, (who I don't have a lot of faith in based on previous experiences). What I got from them is basically that they'll throw it on the machine, and if it's not throwing any codes or doesn't show any issues with a "visual" inspection, the 100 dollar diagnostic fee will ...

After almost 3 years with my 06, I'm still a bit disappointed with my mileage...anyone else ?

Is there something about 06's compared to previous year models that took the mileage figures down a bit, maybe emissions requirements changed ? I have a buddy that has an 03 FWD auto, and he consistently gets 34 mpg with about 30% small town driving, and 70% hwy, and he gets 38 mpg plus on strictly ...

Re: Anyone tackled fixing the sunroof shade rattle ? (ColonelPanic)

Hmmm...Mine is really more of a squeaking sound that I thougt was a rattle. When you are driving and hit a bump, it sounds like loose trim in the rear of the car. After poking and pressing a bit, I figured out it was the moonroof shade. With it open or closed, I can press it upward with my hand, and...

Thanks much. I'll try the switch first. You don't happen to know the pinouts for it do you ? Was thinking of trying a capacitor across the power termonals as an experiment. Thanks again.

Re: (rlfreese)

Thanks man !!. Definitely strange. They do share the same harness to the back though I suspect, as well as the same disconnect contact block for the rear glass. My theory is that the defrost button sends a momentary pulse etc to something to toggle the state of the relay. I'm suspecting that I'm get...

Rear Defroster coming on by itself......what gives ?

Frequently, when I engage the lo/interval speed of the rear wiper, it turns on my rear defrost when the wiper arm comes back to rest. Won't turn off at tha point either without restarting the car, or waiting for a subsequent swipe to turn it off. I tried replacing the rear defrost relay for kicks. N...

Anyone else have an exhause resonance/rattle/buzz when passing through low RPMs ?

New vibe, 2006, 1500 miles, when taking off from a stop, my exhaust seems to pass through a reosnant frequency at low RPM. A brief buzz/rattle. Not noticeable at any other time. I didn't notice this on any of the vibes I test drove before ordering mine, but I didn't drive them long either. It's only...

Anyone else disappointed in their 2006 Gas Mileage ?

I have a 2006 Base FWD Vibe, Automatic, Loaded up. Window sticker is EPA 29 city, 34 hwy. My driving is about 3 miles each way per day in a small town, to and from work, about 4 traffic lights inbetween. I've checked the mileage 3 tanks now. Best I got was about 21.5 mpg in this city" driving. ...

Anyone had this problem with molded splash guards ?

I ordered them directly from GM, part numbers as listed on the pontiac vibe accessory link on the mods page here...but the front ones don't fit...it's like they were designed to fit the contour of the sheet metal, not the countour of the plastic planges, specifically at the nottom of the body. Re: Rear Window Defogger and Rear Window Wiper operation question... (Sunny)

Actually, one more bit of info. It ONLY does it when in LO (Interval) mode, and it toggles. Seems to be related to the current draw when the rear wiper motor stops running, as I can se ethe radio lights dim ever so slighly when it stops each time (The wiper motor), like the defrost relay gets a fals...

Rear Window Defogger and Rear Window Wiper operation question...

I've noticed on my 2006 that when I turn on the rear window wiper, the rear window defroster indicator cycles on for a few minutes then off for a few minutes continuously. Is this normal ? Perhaps a "feature" to theoreticaly keep you from tearing up your rear window wiper if it is frozen ?...

On my new 2006 Vibe factory invoice, there is a 59 buck stainless steel exhaust tip option listed, with a noe that it is delivered with the car and installed by the dealer. My exhaust tip is shiney, but it doesn't look as fancy as the tip shown on pontiac's Vibe accessory page. Is the regular tip fr...

Newbie with Electric Lock Question

Hello, Just got my new Vibe and really diggin it, but I have a question regarding the electric door locks. When I stop the car, put it in park, then turn off the ignition, they automatically unlock. Is there anyway that they can be setup to not unlock automatically ? Maybe the dealer can push a cont...
