Extreme tire noise after new snow tires - Goodyear Nordics

I was expecting more tire noise than I had before after getting a set of Goodyear Nordics, as it's an aggressive snow tire, but the amount of noise was far more than I was expecting. At highway speed it's just as noisy as riding in my brother's 4 wheel drive pickup truck. I'm hoping to hear from oth...

I didn't write it down but I think the P0420 is correct.

Emissions Control Fails In Extreme Cold

We've been having some extremely bitter cold in the Northeastern US lately. When the temperature gets down to below about 10 to 12 degrees Fahrenheit my check engine light comes on. I took the car to a mechanic and it spit out a code that the mechanic told me is usually for a bad purge valve in the ...

Re: Transmission fluid change

I just changed the transmission fluid in my 2003 Vibe recently and there is a drain-plug for it. If you're laying down in front of the car so your head is pointing towards the driver's side and your feet towards the passenger side (US car, European layout would be reversed) the drain plug will be to...

Recommendations on a CEL Code Reader for 2003 Vibe

I have a 2003 base model Vibe with 102,000 miles on it. The check engine light has been coming on intermittently and I'm going out to buy myself a code reader, so I can start taking care of more of these things myself. I was hoping to find out which code reader works best with the Vibe. Does anyone ...

Have you checked the condition of your transmission fluid? My mileage increased significantly after a tune-up that included new fluid.

New battery and change in vehicle performance

I have a 2003 FWD base model Vibe with 102,000 miles on it. Recently the car wouldn't start, and I thought it sounded like it was cranking rather weakly so I replaced the battery. Immediately after I replaced the battery the car still wouldn't start. The next morning I was getting ready to call the ...

Fuel injectors fouling

Awhile back my Vibe was running really rough so I took it to the mechanic and he told me the fuel injectors were dirty and I just needed to fill up the tank and run some fuel injector cleaner through it. I followed his advice and the problem was resolved. Now my problem is it seems like I have to ad...

Re: Wood paneled vibe goofiness

Based on that picture without the cladding I think I'll follow the other example and just try to fill in between the cladding. I think I'll skip the wood flooring also and just do the veneer for the panel sections and look at carving the framing from furring strips.

Re: Play in front-right driveshaft bearing

I did a tune-up not too long ago which included replacing my tranny fluid and I haven't noticed any leaks. I check the level fairly regularly since I changed the fluid and everything looks and feels fine. The tires are Goodyear Nordics so they make a lot of noise anyways. I'm thinking maybe I should...

Old school looking radio

Can anyone recommend a radio that has wiring that will work with the vibe, doesn't cost an arm and a leg, and which has a classic vintage look like this old Pontiac radio? http://www.favhdwallpapers.com/1965-pontiac-banshee-radio-hd-widescreen-classic-car-wallpaper.html/1965-pontiac-banshee-radio-hd...

Re: Brake Lines: Opinions Wanted

I would drain and replace the fluid before replacing the lines. Also make sure that the cap on the brake fluid reservoir is in good condition and sealing tightly. Brake fluid sucks up moisture so if that cap gets degraded you can get a lot of H20 in your brake lines which will give you that mushy fe...

Re: Chnaging Transmission Fluid and P0741

I replaced the transmission fluid on my 2003 with 96,000 miles on it and noticed a significant improvement in how the vehicle performs. The fluid that I took out looked way too thin and was black as engine oil. I noticed a significant improvement in my mileage after making the change. Vibes require ...

Re: idle rpm speed at startup too high?

I had the exact same problem on my 2003 with 95,000 miles until I changed the plugs. I took the car in for service and the mechanic told me that the car was throwing a code for a misfire on the number one cylinder. He was asking over $300 for a tune-up (oil change, transmission fluid, plugs and air ...

Play in front-right driveshaft bearing

I have a 2003 Vibe, 2wd base model with 96,000 miles. I took it in for a wheel-bearing replacement and the mechanic told me that the "whoop-whoop" noise that I was hearing was because there was more play than there should be in my passenger side drive-shaft bearing. He said that as long as...

Re: How many miles can you go on 1/4 of a tank?

I have a 2003 2wd base model Vibe with 96,000 miles and recently did a tune-up -new plugs, transmission fluid, oil change and air filter- and was amazed at the improvement in my mileage. Before I was only getting around 25 mpg and after doing the work I'm up to 28 - 29. I've never had a car before t...

Need advice on rust removal

I have an '03 vibe in the gun-metal gray color. I live in upstate, NY and we get a lot of road salt here. I'm starting to get rust on the edges of the doors, in spots on the hood and at the bottom of the lift-gate. Any advice on the best way to attack this problem? I can do basic maintenance - spark...
