Wood paneled vibe goofiness

I'm thinking real old school, sort of like this:

Anyone who can give me an idea of what I'm going to find once I pull the plastic off the bottom of the body? Is that stuff structural or is it just cosmetic?

Also, any ideas about how to get laminate flooring to stick to the metal?

The Vibe is a hideous sight without that cladding...



It looks like a substantial amount of work to fill in the areas covered by the cladding to even them up with the adjacent areas.

A long time ago, in a galaxy where my Vibe was stock and unmodded... I made this.

Based on that picture without the cladding I think I'll follow the other example and just try to fill in between the cladding. I think I'll skip the wood flooring also and just do the veneer for the panel sections and look at carving the framing from furring strips.

Look for Dinoc woodgrain paneling - I would think that any kind of laminate flooring thing is just going to swell with moisture and fail miserably. I'd think that instead of furring strips (wood is not good in damp car applications) you could use universal wide body molding strips and wrap it with a different Dinoc vinyl.

You might also experiment with wrapping the cladding in Dinoc so that it becomes the "trim" along the bottom.
