I only had a few minutes this evening to mess with the car. Ran jumper cables from the positive terminal to the starter solenoid. I was able to start the car but had to rev it some to keep it from stalling. I'm really hoping it's just a bad battery cable.
I cleaned them thoroughly yesterday. No change. I am thinking there may be hidden corrosion and being moved around during the clutch job broke things loose inside the insulation. I truly hope it's that simple. If so, the jumper cable bypass should work.
The sparks are occurring at the battery cable clamp. It's arcing from one side of the clamp to the other. I've put my meter all over it and can't find a short, shunt, or bad ground. No bad fuses or relays. However, to rule out a bad ground, I'll probably run a jumper cable from the negative terminal...
I am finishing up a clutch replacement on my stepson's 2003 vibe gt. The engineers are sadists. I have swapped clutches on other vehicles (mostly RWD) in a few hours with no problems. Anyway, I had my wife try to start it today while I watched underhood and when she turned the key it wouldn't start ...
It was a strange issue, alright. The car lived its entire life in Texas. Mostly in central Texas. It's never been subjected to road salt, but it sees temps from 0 to 110+. A few items of note: -The pulley ring shifted enough to contact a raised area of the timing cover and wore into it slightly. Scu...
I fixed it. My wife and I drove it for about a week to test and my stepson has been driving it for a week. Long story short, the rubber of the balancer had broken but was acting like a clutch. Usually it was locked in place with friction (I'd checked the balancer/pulley multiple times already), but ...
Apparently my stepson put power steering fluid in the reservoir a few months ago instead of ATF. In fairness, the cap on the reservoir does say "power steering fluid" in big letters and only mentions ATF in the fine print. I really don't know if it did any damage but we flushed the system ...
Tensioner is supposed to be a pain on the GT lightly sanding the drive pulley (crankshaft) in case it is glazed over. Tensioner wasn't too difficult. Though I just replaced the piston part of it since the arm and pulley were fine. I will definitely sand the crank pulley, and probably the others, on...
Never any squeaking and we didn't actually see the belt slip. What we've tried so far: -New belt - not much change. -New belt tensioner - ran great for about 5 miles, then started slipping. -Replaced old battery that was slow starting and not holding full charge, even from a trickle charger. BIG imp...
We ran it in the driveway at idle and at various RPMs and I watched the belt and pulleys while he turned the wheel lock-to-lock. We couldn't replicate the problem except when driving and nothing looked or sounded wrong.
My stepson has a 2003 vibe gt. It runs fine but then loses power steering after a few miles. It seems the only time it goes out is when the ac is on. This leads me to suspect that the belt tensioner might be failing and when the extra load of the compressor is applied, it allows the belt to slip. An...
Saturday my AC started blowing hot air. I put my gauges on it and found it my pressure was low. 15 psi low side, 70 high side at 101° ambient temp. I gave it several hours to sit in case the evaporator coil was iced over, then I started charging it up and got the low side to 40 psi and high side.......
I was trying to find the ac relay on my 09 gt yesterday. Closest I can figure is that the relay that controls the ac fan also controls the rest of the system.
My 2009 Vibe GT just recently started getting randomly stuck in park. Sometimes the ABS light flashes when this happens. The first time it happened I restarted the car a few times and the lockout solenoid disengaged. The second time I was at a gas station and had to pull the cover and release the lo...
That's what I suspect after doing a few more checks yesterday. It's getting power from the fuse box but the clutch ohms out of range so it looks like the coil either has bad windings or a blown fuse. I'm guessing it was cycling way too much when the refrigerant was low and burned itself out.
man, i could really use a hand here. GF's 2003 Vibe GT wasn't cooling as well as it should so i put my gauges on it, found the pressures about 2/3 of what they should have been for the temp and humidity. Obviously a leak somewhere so i pulled vacuum, which held for a half hour, then added some refri...
BenWA, thanks for mentioning that hassle. I've seen a lot of other companies pull that stunt but I'll watch it with moog now too. Risking losing customers to save a buck is unwise long-term.
GF's 03 GT has a worn inner cv joint on the passenger side (boot cracked, lube got out, moisture got in...you know the drill). i've seen conflicting information regarding whether the carrier bearing is actually pressed onto the shaft and into the support and the manuals are vague. to me, it appears ...
i'm a little late posting on this but my solution because i had a major time crunch was to take some fine sand paper and take a little off the bracket and smoothed out the back of the chain tensioner so they'd slide past each other. yeah, i hated the idea too but nearly 4 years and 50K miles later t...
2nd on the Rockauto. I'll be replacing my GF's links with Moogs soon and found them on there for much cheaper than OEM stuff. I've never been disappointed with Moog stuff.
Chem 2 huh? I wish it was just that simple. Back in college we had to do full calculations for the prof's cat. 3-way magnaflow with air injection. Knda fun....well, for school as anyway. Interesting thought about it being an unused plug for auto trans. Common harness sounds feasible for cost saving....
Yeah, I figured the cat is the real problem but I've already done the basic cat checks like bopping it to check for broken substrate and I used my pressure gauge in the O2 sensor bungs to check for a clog, so thankfully it just seems to be typical loss of catalyst efficiency from normal fuel deposit...
My gf has a 2003 vibe gt. While replacing her o2 sensors (hoping to get rid of the dreaded p0420) I found a white disconnected wiring harness where the dash center console below the shifter meets the carpet on the passenger side. wires were: 1 green, 1 yellow, 2 white. It closely resembled an o2 sen...
