Will,I am not clear on where you connected the foil insulation. I would recommend connecting it only to the radio chassis and nowhere else, or use it ground your xm, but not ground the xm to anything else. My idea is to eliminate multiple ground points.Since you are getting noise with the engine off...

I added a Injen CAI and Magnum Exhaust 6,000 mile ago to my 03' GT, mostly highway driving. I log my MPG each fill up. My MPG went from an average of 27.5 to 29.I expected the opposite.

Quite,Great news that it works on your '05. I think that the 03-04' are different radios. However, there is another thread here on a devise that seems to make the 03-04 units AUX functional. If they cure all of the noise problems, it is a great alternative to my DIY method.

If this works that would nice thing, except for the price. I am a little concerned that they seem to think that models years 2000-2002 exist. "Accessories . . Toyota Matrix 2000-Up"Also, it would disprove the theory that the ROM in the 2003-2004 models do not support the AUX button.

You should keep of log and calculate your exact MPG each time you fill up. Filling up with 11 gallons vs. 13 gallons makes a big difference when you figure it out. I have found that a new air filter and oil change has increased by MPG by as much as 3 MPG from 26 to 29 MPG. Mostly highway @60-80MPH. ...

It sounds like laser pickup might be dirty. Since you have very little to loose. I would remove the head unit and open it up. Try cleaning it manually with a Qtip and some isopropyl (not rubbing) or denatured alchohol. This might help.
