Buzzing in speakers

Post by Reynoma »

This is not a Vibe question, it is actually for my minivan.I had an aftermarket video system put in. Sound goes through an FM modulator. But, you can hear a very loud, anoying buzz sound that gets higher when I press on the gas. I guess it is feedback. Anybody know of anything I can do to eliminate this?

It is electrical noise. I would guess, ITS JUST A GUESS, that the plug going from your cig lighter is picking up interference. I don't know what you could do to fix it though. Sorry for not being one bit of help.

probably not feedback, but ignition noise coupling in, especially if the pitch of the noise is related to RPMs.Maybe rerouting some wires, or perhaps a noise filter of some sort, maybe on the 12V to the modulator, or perhaps a better ground

my bro had one of those modulators and it picked up the firing of the spark plugs. he had to get a cheapy noise reducer from radio shack and problem solved.

I don't do this stuff myself, so I am probably better off bringing it someplace, right? (it has been about 2 years since the video unit has been put in).

If you paid to have this installed, then take it back to them and make them fix it. Typical causes are loose power cables (especially the ground wire.) Usually, grounding all of the audio components to the same source will cure this problem. Worst case, have them ground your video system to your factory radio. The noise filters from Radio Shack can help, but they generally just reduce the noise, not completely eliminate it. It helps the symptoms, but does not cure the source of the problem.

Did you get it done at CC? If so, bring it back, they'll install that Groundloop isolator. If not, you can get one at Radioshack. It needs to be plugged into the RCA outputs of the DVD player.I've seen this many times, as i've installed quite a few at my CC store. PM me if you can't get ahold of the isolator.

I had the video system put in at a high end electronics place called Tweeter (I don't know if they are only local or are nationwide). They are supposed to be the best. I'm thinking about going back there and having them fix it.

Tweeter is definitely nationwide, and yeah, that'd be the best course of action. Engine noise is something we installers hate, and it isn't always obvious until AFTER the customer drives off. We usually warn our customers that there's a possibility of it popping up, in which case we'll troubleshoot it for you.
