I have a Moons and Tunes package in my Vibe. The CD player started to skip occasionally. I used a CD lens cleaner kit to clean the lens...bad move. The CD player is dead now, it won't read any CDs. I am looking for any suggestions on what to try next or where I could get the unit repaired besides taking it to a dealer. I feel like the dealer will just say, well it's broken, you need a new one $$$$$$$$$.
If you are still covered under warranty, then I'd say try the dealer first.there's also usually some on ebay if you just want to go buy onehttp://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...=WDVW
Correct. They emphasize int he owner's manual NOT to use cleaner CDs.What happens is the brush on the cleaning disc picks up grease and gunk from the moving parts inside the radio, and then brushes them onto the lens, effectively tainting the lens and making your radio worthless.I do happen to have a spare radio if you want it...I'll cut you a deal...

S#*T!!!! Just my luck. I wouldn't recomend this unless you plan to replace your unit, which I did. I took the unit out of the dash. I removed the top cover, the bottom cover, and the face plate. The CD player is a seperate unit within the stereo that can be removed with a couple connectors and a few screws. I took the top cover off the CD unit which gave access to the lens. I cleaned it with some alcohol and a cotton swab. Put the whole mess back together and IT WORKS. That should be good news except for the fact that I just bid on a replacement on eBay. Anyone need a spare?
if you bid on the link that I posted, that's still pretty low, so maybe someone else will outbid you, unles you set a high auto bid.Cool that you were able to fix it, too bad there are no pics
I would like to know if anyone has R&R there factory RDS stereo.Since It reads the vin # from the CPU, It sound like that will be a fun time.and what the process is at the dealer and charges.

They do not have THEFTLOCK, thus are are not tied in to a specific vehicle. You can remove and replace the radio with any other non-THEFTLOCK equipped radio...

Yep, like Raging said. The blinking LED is just a "theft deterrent." Your average GM car *will* read the VIN from the BCM, ECM, or wherever - but these cars do not. So, nothing to worry about. If you disconnect the battery, the radio will be fine. It even keeps your presets for you if the battery is disconnected. All you have to worry about is setting the clock.

It sounds like laser pickup might be dirty. Since you have very little to loose. I would remove the head unit and open it up. Try cleaning it manually with a Qtip and some isopropyl (not rubbing) or denatured alchohol. This might help.
Since you've had the face off the radio, might I ask how difficult was that to do? The radio I have in my car is a warranty replacement, unfortunately it wasn't a 'new' radio. There is something on the right side of the display on the inside, almost looks like someone wiped the display on the inside with something damp, and it dried, leaving streaks, smears, etc. So, I really need to take apart the radio and clean the inside of the display window...

Unfortunately you may be out of luck. The face plate is very easy to remove. The bad part is that it is a sealed unit. That is to say the display, the knobs, the entire face is an assembly that is glued together and not meant to be opened up. The assembly will simply "unclip" from the body of the unit, be careful when removing it, there is very little excess in the wiring leading from the circuit board in the main unit to the face plate assy. You can carefully unplug the wires from the circuit board in the main unit to remove the face plate completely. The bottom cover of the main unit will pry off with a little care, and you will see the connectors that I am talking about. I would be very hesitant about opening up the face plate assembly. If you do and it doesn't go well I would try eBay for a replacement. There is a guy on there who has one available now, the current bid is $25. It comes with a seven day warranty. Check it out, item number 7919968738. Good Luck.....
