Re: Melting Alternator fuse, electrical problems (crystal)

Check the positve + wire going from the alternator to the battery, make sure it's not melted, it's flexable - no hard spots in the cable. Also check the battery connections for corriosion.I would fix the melted fuse box and wiring before putting anymore parts on. you may have wires that melted togeth...

Re: water in the gas tank. Help! (Darlene)

First as someone else mentioned check the fuel pressure and make sure it's in spec. 2nd the fuel injectors have steel parts inside of them that probably corroded from the water. There are places that clean and flow test injectors, check the phone book for someone close to you. Also gasoline injector...

Re: First coolant DIY flush @ 49k (jkm311)

Go to the auto parts store and buy a antifreeze tester. It will tell you what the freezing/boiling point of the coolant is. A 50/50 mix should be good for around -34 f. degrees in the winter. If the mix you have in there now is lower than -34 add antifreeze, if it's higher add water. You may have to...

There are so many other things that will wear out in 300,000 miles besides the engine that they won't pay for. Don't think it's worth it, they just want you to buy their oil.

I know this is an old thread but I recentlly had to replaced a Sears Diehard in my car before I sold it. Battery bought in December 1999 - replaced October 2008. Car sat from August 2008 to October, started about once every 2 weeks. I would definetly get another Diehard.

Re: Rear Drum Brake Replacement (joatmon)

If you read the sentence it says to replace or have the drums or rotors cut. Most people don't have the tools to measure drums or rotors to see if they are out of spec. If you take them to get cut hopefully the shop will measure them for you and tell you if they need to be replaced, but that is not ...

When you do the rear brakes only take apart one side, that way if you can't remember how it went together you can look at the other side to help. Also replace the drums with new ones, you could get them cut but they look really flimsey on the Vibe. You will see posts with people saying you don't hav...

A gas engine can run on diesel, I had to go fix a welding machine that a guy added 5 gallons of diesel to. The Ironworker was welding and decided to chech the fuel level, it was low so he dumped a 5 gallon can of diesel in the gas tank. The 4 cylinder Continental was running rough, backfiring, and s...

Gary, my wife's 2003 Base Vibe threw the same codes right before her state inspection was due. I cleared the codes with a scan tool and would check with the scan tool every few ...

Joseph, get yourself a 12 volt test light and test to see if you have power to the plug for the bad power lock when you hit the switch. You can also check the ground for the power lock with the test light. As for something in the way when you try to remove the lock you may have to raise or lower the ...

Philip, if you replaced that left front tire 3 times because of unusual wear and have a shimmy when braking occasionally it would be safe to say its the wheel bearings. BTW did you or anyone else that drives that car hit anything with the left front wheel, like a curb, big pot hole?

The Vibe doesn't have a coolant filter. It sounds like they filter the old coolant and "rejuvenate" it, what ever that means. Look for a place that flushes and refills the cooling system. Also see if you can get them to replace the thermostat also - cheap insurance.BTW heavy equipment and ...

You gotta love built in obsolesce. They can make light bulbs that are made at the same time burn out within a week to month of each other. Try to find bulbs not made in China or Mexico but made in Europe, they seem to last alot longer.

Bearings are on shafts, rods, axles ect. Most of the time to remove them you have to take apart alot of other things to get to them. No other parts laying there or parts missing off your ride? Maybe someone sees you working on your Vibe all the time and put them there to mess with you.

Like Digger said, aluminium and steel react with each other and WILL seize together. If you can find it use the high temperature nickel anti-seize for spark plugs and exhaust bolts. Also, anti-seize has metal particles in it, so I can't see it causing a bad ground.
