Check engine lights

Post by psychcity »

Just bought an 04 Vibe GT with 28k from an out of state dealer. Three days later, code P0442 and P0301 are coming out as read to me by an Autozone guy. I don't want to drive 3 hrs back to the dealer, but if it's going to be expensive than I have no choice...what does this mean, are they related, how serious, good fuel, not the gas cap. Any suggestions.

A code P0442 most likely means one or more of the following has happened:A loose or improperly affixed gas cap A non-conforming gas cap (i.e. not factory/original brand) A small leak/hole in a fuel vapor hose/tube Other small leak in EVAP system Faulty vent o-ring seal A code P0301 may mean that one or more of the following has happened:Faulty spark plug or wire Faulty coil (pack) Faulty oxygen sensor(s) Faulty fuel injector Burned exhaust valve Faulty catalytic converter(s) Running out of fuel Poor compression Defective computer

PO0442 Evaporative Emission Control System Leak Detected (small leak)P0301 Cylinder 1 Misfire DetectedCodes out of the manal from my INNOVA OBD2 code reader.0442 could be gas cap but usally other codes with it. Do a search on these forums for the code, lots of info.0301 could be a bad plug or coil on top of plug.

I do not know how far you are from Derby CT, but I have a good friend whom is a General Motors World Class Technician. This is the highest you can get as a GM tech. He works at at Dworkin Chevrolet and he could fix it right up in no time and correctly if you want a good tech to work on your car. IM me if you are interested!
