Air bag Error Codes

Post by Cycorx »

Hi. I have a 2005 Vibe. My airbag light recently came on. I jumpered the pins in the OBD2 and got the following 3 codes: 31, 32 and 41. I've searched around and have found different results. Does anyone have a SRS code list that can look up these codes for me? I am in Canada so I can't just go to Autozone for a free code lookup.

Easy things to check are the airbag connections under the seats, make sure they're firmly connected.
Have you had the car checked out for the airbag recall yet?

I found this listed on a few sites but the accuracy is questionable.

12=Low Battery Voltage
13=Air Bag Circuit Shorted to Ground
14=Primary Crash Sensor Circuit Shorted to Ground
21=Safing Sensor Not Mounted to Vehicle Properly
22=Safing Sensor Output Shorted to Battery Voltage
23=Safing Sensor Circuit Input Feed/Return Circuit Open
24=Safing Sensor Output Feed/Return Circuit Open
32 Driver Side Air Bag Circuit High Resistance or Open
33 Passenger Side Air Bag Circuit High Resistance or Open
34=Driver Side Air Bag Circuit Low Resistance or Shorted
35=Passenger Side Air Bag Circuit Low Resistance or Shorted
41=RH Primary Crash Sensor Feed/Return Circuit Open
42=LH Primary Crash Sensor Feed/Return Circuit Open
44=RH Primary Crash Sensor Not Mounted to Vehicle Properly
45=LH Primary Crash Sensor Not Mounted to Vehicle Properly
51=Air Bag Diagnostic Monitor Internal Thermal FuseFuse Blown Due to Intermittent Short to Ground
52=Backup Power SupplyVoltage Boost Fault
53=Primary Crash Sensor Circuits Resistance to Ground or Air Bag Diagnostic Fault

Thanks. I disconnected the battery and unplugged and replugged the airbag connectors under the seat and under the dash. The light stayed at first but after I reset the codes it stayed off. Drove 40 km and restarted the engine a few times after and so far so good. Hopefully it stays off. I must have tugged on one of the wires when I installed the wiring for the LCD headrests for the kids but didn't think that airbag wiring was under the center console or seats.

Hello everyone,

My 2007 Vibe have the Airbag Readiness Light constantly on. I have an ODB2 to Bluetooth adapter that I use with Torque on my Android phone. Torque is not able to find any error code.

I found this thread but I'm confused on how to read to code of the airbag system if not thru the ODB2 connector. Is there a different ECU for airbag with a different method to read it?

Thanks!

Excellent, thank you!

I got codes 43 and 53. Any idea how bad it is? :)

EDIT: Apprently I had the passenger air bag recall due. I was lucky to get an appointment today. Taking the time to browse while waiting and it looks like the SDM module will have to be changed.

Toyota part is 89170-01060 and GM's 88973569. Toyota dealer wants a bit under 400$, GM almost 500$ and ebay got one used for 50$.

I'm in Canada so online parts are rare and duty fees enormous.

EDIT2: Looks like I'm "lucky" as it's only the steering coil.. 152$CAN plus 1h of work. I'd do it myself but I need to leave on holidays and can't spare the time. :(

I got codes: 35, 37, 52, 53, 54

The dealer told me the SDM module (airbag sensing and diagnostic module) was bad, but I'm skeptical into buying into that. They quoted $475 for the part, and about 1.5 hours of labor. Found the part on eBay (GM part) for $115.

Did changing yours take care of the airbag light?

Hi Gary,

I did not change the SDM module. I changed the steering coil which was less expensive. If you're in the US, there's plenty of sources to get an SDM module cheap and it looks very easy to swap yourself. Make sure you get one for your air bag system: if you have side air bags, the module is not the same.

Thanks for the comment. I got really bored yesterday and took apart a lot of my interior. I found the the sdm module goes, and found a brand new one online made by GM for 1/4 of the price the dealership was charging me. My only questions now are: does it need any type of Vin specific coding done, and is this really the problem I'm having? I'm not sure I fully trust in the dealership

not according to my research. I've red that SDM modules are drop in replacements but you have to make sure they are for the correct airbag system: with or without side air bags.

as for if it would fix your problem, I don't know enough about the codes having just recently learned of them.

I'm making sure to get the right part. Got the part number straight from my dealership
