I've been meaning to replace a burned out door speaker on my family's '05 vibe for a while now, but I'm getting confused where to start. All my searching kept leading around to the genVibe forums, so I figured I'd post the issue directly.
The 2005 Vibe was purchased in '06 from the Pontiac dealership (RIP) on one of those after-lease deals. It came with the Monsoon sound system, which worked fine up until 6 months ago when the passenger door speaker started a lot of buzzing and distortion. It really effects the listening quality, so since then we've just had the balance set mostly to the driver's side; about 3/4 balance to that side and the distortion in the passenger speaker stops.
So I'm looking to replace the door speaker, probably the pair, but I get the picture that because it's the Monsoon system, it's not a simple swap for any 6.5" I can find on Kijiji, or for a good price on Crutchfield. My main questions are:
1. What do I need to look out for to make sure it's compatible with the rest of the Monsoon system,
2. What should I be looking for that would deliver sound quality the same or better as the original Monsoon system, and can I do it for around $100 CAD.
3. If that price point is too low, what are my best options. Strong bass isn't as important as clear mid and treble.
I see Crutchfield will filter my results to be compatible with the '05 vibe, including monsoon, but I'm still not sure what's comparible in experience (or better) than the original system, so I don't know where to start.
This is pretty basic, but I appreciate any insight you can provide. I've been putting this off because I don't know where to start. Thanks.
