I have a 2006 Pontiac Vibe, with the 6CD changer factory radio and it seems 7 speakers (4 in the doors, 2 tweeters in the front doors high, and a subwoofer in the trunk on the right side panel). Not sure if that qualifies as "premium sound" or "monsoon"... Feel free to set me straight.
I have a question around hooking up the woofer and tweeters to an aftermarket radio.
The CD changer died (I think Texas heat ended up making the plastic changer clips inside warp, CDs now get stuck), so I'm browsing Crutchfield for a (cheap) aftermarket radio, I'm ok with losing the 6cd changer for just 1cd-at-a-time.
After I select a reasonable radio (http://www.crutchfield.com/p_158GT56UI/ ... T56UI.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; ), I get prompted to add this wiring harness: http://www.crutchfield.com/p_120702003/ ... ml?tp=2977" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; which seemingly only serves 4 speakers.
My questions:
1. Would this combination only serves 4 out of 7 speakers? Do I lose my sub and tweeters?
2. Is the sub powered? I.e. can I use the low-pass pre-amp outputs of this Sony to connect to the sub? Or is the sub-amp built-in to the factory unit?
2b. Do I need a separate wiring harness to convert the Sony's RCA plugs to the vehicle?
3. What about the tweeters?
4. Is there such a thing as a 4+2+1 channel aftermarket stereo? And is that worth it?
If I can find a way to hook up the sub, I'm probably fine with losing the tweeters, but I want to be well-informed on my options first.
Many thanks to anyone who takes the time to help me out!
