Radio Pops

Post by Kelpie »

I just put in a Panasonic head unit on an '03 Vibe with Moons and Tunes. It pops real loud when I turn on the unit, when I turn off the unit, when I change components from radio to cd and then to XM, when I change radio and XM stations, and when I forward through a CD.I wired up a metra harness to the pre amp outputs to avoid the problems that I read here with the amp. I thought if rewiring it with the Scosch thing that allows one to modify the gain on the regular output, but I don't know that it would solve the popping noises.Anyone have any suggestions?

Are you running the factory amp still?

I have first hand experience with this.I'm running an aftermarket HU, I wired in the scosche and adjusted the gains of the speaker levels. I had no popping issues. Then the scosche took a dump and i removed it and wired the HU direct to the factory amp with the speaker wires, I now have the popping noise you are having. I am going to wire in a new scosche today to stop the popping again. So yes if your running the factory amp yes you will need the scosche to get rid of the popping.

That should help immensely. It will eliminate the popping and I'm sure you're hearing excessive white noise as well.Another option is to just bypass the thing. I think I heard they now have some new fangled harnesses that do the job for that. That would have been nice to have years ago.

Yeah, I am using the factory amp.I'll go ahead and get the scoche thing. I had it wired through the usual wire harness earlier and had the hiss. but no popping. Should I wire the scoche from the usual harness and not the pre amp outputs?

wire it inline between the radio and the plugs that plug in to the factory plugs using the speaker wire inputs
