Another new member tire question - Eagle F1

Post by enfield577 »

Might be a dumb question, but I've never had tires like these before. My used 2009 Vibe GT came with Goodyear Eagle F1 A/SC tires. These tires have little stylized arrows and the word ROTATION, which means they are directional tires, right?OK, the tires on the back are mounted on the wrong side (rotating backwards). I don't know how many miles they have been this way - I've only put about 500 miles on the car since I bought it.I don't see any unusual wear. Should I get the back tires switched right away? Or can I wait until normal tire rotation time (about 2000 miles from now)?

It's best to get them switched the correct way. I'm sure that someone will be able to chime in for the actually reason(s), but I've always heard that directional tires must be facing the correct way.

Switch them. I'm not sure what adverse effects might happen, but the tread is designed to work a certain way and if it is backwards it will not perform like it should.

Directional tires have to be put on the right way or you will Hydroplane, or lose traction during wet weather. The tread is made to push water away not put back in front of the tire. But during dry weather shouldn't have a problem except increasing tire wear.

Easy fix enfield. Jack the rear up and switch positions, rear right to rear left and rear left to rear right. That should point them both in the proper direction. Good thing you caught that.No adverse effects for the tires... but if you drive on very wet roads, you will hydroplane those tires much sooner. Dangerous to you, your car and those around you, but not a big deal to tire wear.Switch them right away!
