I have a bone stock 09Vibe 2.4. Why is the ride so rough. I feel every bump and divit in the road. Also there is a noticable clunk coming from the liftgate area when going over some bumps.

You might want to check to see if the spare tire and or jack is tightened down. Vibe suspension is inherently stiff, so keep in mind, if you're going to move to a larger diameter wheel, the ride will become more harsh.
The rough ride is normal. That clunk is caused by the tailpipe hitting the rear bumper. Here's where it normally sits.It can move up pretty easily with a big enough bump...
Maybe it's what you're used to? My '09 2.4L doesn't feel hard at all - it soaks up those large speed bump things and glides over railroad crossings. Of course, the pavement might be smoother out here is well. We get little in the way of potholes and frost heaves.
