man, that video needed some music or something seems silly, especially on a digital odometer.

Yeah I do not get it either! So dumb! Why? Why? I can't believe it is a part issue, more like a software issue or something. Someone needs to figure out how to defeat it!

Quote, originally posted by BlueCrush ».I know it has been discussed before, but why in gods name would a car company do that??Perhaps due to recent downgrades in Toyota quality, they weren't expecting the cars to be able to last that long. Or maybe just planned obselence, taking a page from the GM playbook. They're punishing those who want to keep their cars a long time. If you want a working odometer, you have to shell out hundreds of dollars to a dealer every 299,999 miles. A money making racket. All this because they didn't put an '8' in the far left number on the LCD. Instead, just the segments that are required to make the numbvers 1 and 2.Could be worse, GM didn't even forsee the Oldsmobile I once had reaching 199,999.9 mi/km. After 200,000 km it just read 'Error.'

The same thing happened to my '04 Corolla. I called the dealership where I bought it, and they said they have to replace the whole cluster. They cover the cost of the cluster, and I have to pay for the 1 hour of labour to put it in.

Somewhere in the fine print of the owners manual, there's a phrase that reads "buy a new car before..."
