Towing with a Vibe

Post by NSimkins »

I haven't seen an exact answer to this question, so I will ask myself.Does anyone know the towing limitations of the Vibe? For example, something light, perhaps a Jet-Ski trailer w/ Jet-Ski? Would that be a viable option to tow on a Vibe? Any other suggestions or examples?Anyone know the exact specs as stated in the manual for towing? Thanks!

The manual states towing weight of 1500 lbs. You should be able to pull a jet ski no prob

Based off of posts from the edmunds town hall, I ordered my hitch from etrailer.com. Apparently the install is quite easy, and it's about $100 delivered. I called some local places, and etrailer was by far cheaper.

Well, nothing yet since it hasn't arrived .When I do have it all setup, most of it's use will be for my hitch mount bike rack. I also have a 4'x6' trailer, but I use it for storage, and don't really expect to tow it much.My Vibe has replaced a 1993 Honda Accord 4 door, and I was surprised how well that car towed. I hauled a fully loaded 6x8 trailer with the Honda from Illinois to Texas with no problems. The engine specs are similar between the 2 cars, but the Honda was a little longer and heavier, so I'm not expecting the Vibe to be any better than the Honda for towing, but hopefully almost as good. With towing in mind, I went for the automatic transmission on the Vibe.

Update: I recieved and installed the hitch today. It's very easy, just wrench in 6 bolts. I didn't wire it up yet, but that should be pretty easy too, patching the wires from the rear headlights. This experience is making me regret the fact that I had U-HAUL install the hitch on my last car .

Hey VibeInTx, can you get a pic of what the hitch looks like on your Vibe? I would be interested.

Wow, thanks for the pics! Was the Vibe ready for the hitch without any drilling, just some bolts and tada?

Where did you buy the hitch?Do they make different hitch sizes (if you know) that are as simple as the bolt-on you have?

With a vibe, the only real hitch option you're going to have is a 1-1/4" reciever type.
