pre-ignition beeping-make it stop, MAKE IT STOP!

Post by Zig in East Orleans »

When first putting the key in the ignition, there's a v. loud beeping that happens (about 4-5 beeps). A. is this necessaryb. how can i disconnect it?

Is your door open when you put the key in?Is your seatbelt on?Closing the door and putting on your seatbelt before starting the car should yield no beeping at all.

Close your door and put your seatbelt on before you put the key in the ignition and you won't have that problem.I'd also suggest reading your owners manual as this and more information is listed there. Hope that helped. Good luck and happy motoring!

Don't feel stupid, feel informed! I never put my seatbelt on first but I don't even hear the beeps anymore. I've learned to tune them out I guess.

I don't think it can be removed. I believe it is a "black box" type item that does many things, not just the warning beeps .

Well, I pulled out the 'ol service manual. Appears it's part of the "multifunction alarm module." Even if your car doesn't have theft deterrent, it has that MAM block, and that's where it is.Oh well. No big.

If you want to "disarm" it, find the small black rubber knob on the driver's side door sill. It feels like a button and you'll notice that if you push it in, it tricks the car into thinking that the door is closed. If you like to run the radio while cleaning without running the engine, then find a way to keep that button pressed in. If worse comes to worse, take that button out and unplug the wires leading to it. The downside is that your "door" lights will not work when you open up the door. I did this with my old Honda. I guess it just depends what is more important to you.

I think this is an American thing. As long as the door is closed, my car is quiet. I don't even think that it makes noise when my belt is off, just the flashing figure on the dash.Any Canadians confirm this? Or do I just have the stereo up too loud?

Also, if you bypass that trigger, and you DO manually turn on lights (even without realizing it), you'll never get a warning when you leave the car...

Yeah those are the downfalls, but if it really bugs you that bad to have it beeeping, disarming is the best way to get rid of it.
