Hi, sorry for barging in but we are very frustrated
with trying to fix our used -to be- worry free 2007Vibe that my wife really needs still!
Last year we had exhaust line replaced, due to rust.
It still smelled bad in the car, rumbled and drove poorly. So back to the same shop:
they found a hole at that sort off bottleneck place of the cat, where the heat shield used to be.
The new converter installed (1100$), after that the Vibe developed some vibration.
It got worse and worse, check engine light was on,and my wife brought the car back to the shop.
The shop then cleared the codes (when asked they referred to them as "a bunch of codes emissions related"),
and stated vibration comes from the 3 bad motor mounts...
$900, All mounts done, the car was in the shop for 3 days,
my wife was using taxis and calling the mechanics daily, with little response.
After she picked up the car, 5 miles later, she had to pull over to the nearest garage due to oil light,
an oil leak happened, that required a new valve gasket plus oil change(Speedy $400! rip off)...
Now after all that work (and $) Vibe vibrates terribly in reverse, and in D, coming to a turn or at a stop.
The quiet , happy purring engine developed all kinds of metallic clicking ticking and noise, sewing machine, she says...
There is also tapping or dull rhythmic noise when accelerating,
that stops only if you release gas pedal.
The garage after 2 more visits and wife's request to check the engine especially for oil leak reasons,
basically saying they cannot do anything else to improve the vibration. She asked them to replace spark plugs, as the ones she had in were AlDelco, (changed in 2022) to NGk. No long lasting effect. ALSO! when she got new the plugs in, she drove the car for about 30 min as if it was her usual Vibe just as before. No noise , responsive and hardly any vibration. After few starts - back to sewing machine rattle and harsh vibrating. MAF cleaned and throttle body cleaned as per manager at that shop.
Any thoughts? what do we check and where do we start ?

Just got new tires put on this morning. See post: viewtopic.php?t=48742

While up on the lift, we looked over a few suspension components and other stuff. Found a loose tie rod, ripped drive side CV axle (only 40k miles on it since replaced) and sway bar links worn. Will make arrangements for these repairs to be made real soon.

Tinted windows on Storm ('07 with 110k miles). No matter how old...I think it always looks better with tinted windows. Went with 20% ceramic IR. Did not do front ones due to laws and had to crop pic for size.

I replaced the rear engine mount on my '07 yesterday. What a pain. I watched several videos. Each had at least one good idea. One was to access the 17 mm bracket bolt through the left wheel well with about 2' of extensions. Another was to grind off a section of the base plate on the Duralast replacement, to match the OEM part. I also had to modify the bolt pattern by tweaking the bolts a little--the new part was 1/8" too narrow for the holes in the crossmember. Unfortunately I had to put the part in twice to figure that out.

One tip I can add is to unbolt the exhaust at the manifold, pull the hangers, and drop the heat shield for a lot more room in a tight spot. That was easy for me since the only symptom of the problem was a leaking gasket there and I'd just done it last week. I noticed the mount problem when the flanges touched at the top with the new gasket in.

At least everything came apart easily. I used DOT 3 brake fluid to penetrate. The whole job took just over four hours and I ache today. (I'm almost too old for this at 67.)

Installed a new radio and back up camera on my 2008 Pontiac Vibe. Went with a BOSS BV765BLC from Crutchfield. It is on sale and got everything to install (radio, antenna adapter, wiring adapter, back up camera, faceplate, etc) for $130 (tax included). Would definately recommend Crutchfield as a one stop shop and they send instructions, wiring diagram and have excellent customer service.

Some of the previous posts were helpful with suggestions and input. But I could not find the back up wire from the fuse panel/block so I just ran the wire to tie into the reverse light. That way the camera activates automatically when in reverse and shuts off in drive or park.

Well it's been 15 years since a new car purchase was made in our family. So our two vibes will have a distant cousin to share the property with. A 2024 Toyota Corrola Cross Hybrid, in the beautiful RARE Acidic blast metallic yellow/gold color. Only had it one week and the wife (its her car & daily driver) loves it very much. A bit slower than her G8GT with the LS-1 6.0 liter engine, BUT 46 mpg instead of 16 :o

FYI, if anyone is interested in the 2009 G8Gt, I'll sell it reasonable to the right person.

Thanks for sharing and very nice car / color! I was also looking at the Cross and Rav4 hybrid/prime. You will have to keep us posted with periodic updates on how you like it.

Also, wish I was in the market for your 2009 G8Gt b/c I know you took care of it. Hope you find a new owner that appreciates it as much as you did!

This week I'm putting all new suspension in the front and struts in the rear. Noticed while I was under the car removing the old sway bar bushings that a couple brake lines look really rusty. I don't miss the Michigan salt. Lots of things to get done this week.

Hit 111,111 on my 2007 silver Vibe (aka Storm)! One step closer to the 299,999 club! My 2008 only has 71,000 so a lot more to go on that one!

I've finally finished my to-do list on my 2008 Vibe that I purchased in March. Full posting here: viewtopic.php?t=48775

The last task was to sand and paint the steel wheels. I completely forgot to take some before photos without the hubcaps so here is a before with the hubcaps on and one after.

Hey this reply might be eight months late but your wheels look good. At one point I spray painted my oem steel wheels high gloss black too. It looks pretty good with tuner lugs.. my hubcaps have been long gone for awhile.

I also really like your backup camera vibenation I have thought about ordering one but the unit is was looking at doesnt install flush into the dash llike yours.

Well, today ive teared up my 09 vibes fuse box. My hvac controls have stopped working. After checking all the fuses, I decided to replace the fusesble link block assembly. According to my fuse schematic it contains a 50 amp fuse to the hvac system. The part cost $35 and replacing it is taking a shot in the dark. Spoiler alert: I missed.

The fuse box pops open like a clamshell.
I ended up sorta breaking the original fusible link block trying to pry it out of there. Eventually, I found a YouTube video showing the few clips I had missed that needed to be popped out to remove it. The fusible link block pops out attached to the plastic block populated with smaller fuses above it. Good old YouTube to the rescue. Thanks AUTOTUB3

Making note of where the wires go. I actually swapped the wires one at a time on the new fusible link block as to avoid mixing them up.

Its in there!
Whelp that didn't fix my hvac..

Its a bummer that ive sorta broken up my oem part which is probably better than the replacement. Though, they look pretty much identical besides the replacement (fusible link block) having one extra connection not used by my car.

Ive ordered a used replacement hvac switch. Its the control which resides in the center dash. Also had to order some new air filter assembly clips and a clamp for the air hose. I broke some other stuff during this process. :?

My car is showing its age. Theres a lot of rusted stuff.
Thats $50 for a used switch. I'll see how that goes. It would be nice to have a working AC this summer. My sunroof is getting a little more use lately without a working AC or blower fan at all for that matter.
