Are the sensors the same on Vibe and Matrix?

Post by Vikingjedi »

I'm looking for a rear right abs speed sensor. I have a 2009 Vibe AWD. Can't find one for the Vibe but I found one for 2009 Matrix AWD. Are they the same sensor?

Here's the other thread you opened talking about this (for anyone else's reference) viewtopic.php?t=48535

I recommend buying one at a Toyota parts counter keep the invoice, and if it doesn't fit, simply return it to the parts counter.

Yep! Go to your nearest Toyota dealer parts department, and tell them, "I have a 2009 Toyota Matrix S 2.4L AWD automatic, and need a right rear ABS speed sensor." When they ask if you have the VIN, tell them, "I didn't bring the car and don't have it with me."
If they push back a second time asking for the VIN let them know you have a Pontiac Vibe.
If they push back again, with "We don't have parts for a Pontiac Vibe" pick any VIN from this list and provide that. :D

Thanks for the help. I called my local place and they said they don't accept returns on electrical parts. So i went with the link yall sent and bought that. It was almost $100 cheaper.

Worst case scenario it doesn't fit and I sell it on ebay. Thanks again.

Just an update. There is a lot more to this than I thought. Electrical parts aren't returnable and the dealership can't confirm the Matrix part will fit. It's going to cost around $660 total and they have no idea if it will work. I'm seriously reconsidering.

Try your GM dealer/parts dept...They have been a good help for me going back and forth on various bits and pieces on my Vibe AWD. Good luck!!

Thanks. Unfortunately that part is completely discontinued. Without it abs, awd, and traction control won't work. In Virginia you can't pass inspection.

So the plan now is try the matrix sensor and see if that works. Dealership did say I would get the part back if it doesn't work which is at least some good news. The part alone is normally like $350.

Thinking of selling the Vibe and getting a Matrix. They have much better aftermarket support.

Final update: They were able to fix the Vibe. The part from the Matrix did fit but the dash lights were still on.

Turns out the first garage gave the wrong diagnoses. It was some bad wiring that they tracked down and replaced. Vibe runs like new now and I'm definitely keeping it.

Biggest thing here is that right rear ABS Speed Sensor that has been discontinued by Pontiac CAN be fixed with the part for the Matrix.

Thanks for all the help!

So just curious, What was your total $$$ for all this work? As you stated, definitely worth it and glad you'll be keeping this Vibe ;)

The labor was $335. Took it to a dealership nearby. The part normally runs $320 plus shipping but one of the members here sent me a link and it was $90 cheaper. They also gave me the old part back which probably works.

So for everything $335 labor + $260 part = $595

I figure getting the old part back cancels out the new one in the future so really under $400.

On top of that I had the oil changed, filled all the fluids, rotated tires, high beam fixed, daylight running lamp fixed. It really feels like a new car now.
