SRI Issue

Post by TraumaForYou »

After putting together my custom SRI I had nothing but problems with it as it would run very horribly and throw me a lean code. I've inspected it several times and am 99% sure there are no leaks. It was an ebay kit that my filter came off of and I found out that it didnt come oiled. would an unoiled filter cause my car to run very lean?

Nope. Some people actually don't like oiled filters as they believe they can muck up your MAF. However, I'm not sure what kind of filter you have. It may be a dry filter.

First off, are you getting any codes?

If not, and you're absolutely sure you've connected everything properly, I would try reinstalling my stock intake and see what happens.

I have been getting I believe when I checked it the p0171 system too lean. Too much oxygen in exauhst. I know it's the sri. I can reinstal the stock intake without issue and it works fine.

Any pics of the setup? You mentioned it was custom. Could be an issue with maf placement.

I have pics of the MAF sensor in the intake. Is it possible that since it sits up high that that could be the cause of the problem?

So, spill the beans! What was the issue or what did you think was the issue?

Not quite sure what the issue might have been. I took the last pipe that connected to the filter and turned it so it was facing downwards beside the battery. Car started up just fine without issue. Took it for a ride and seemed to have no problems at all. Maybe I tightened a screw down a tiny bit more or maybe the way I reassemeled the parts. Not completely sure. There must still be the smallest leak or something because I just threw a code. Car is running fine but gonna keep tinkering with it more.

Thanks! I actually have a CAI in the mail right now so that will be installed soon. It was an interesting little project though.

are you sure your p0171 code isn't due to a failing intake manifold gasket that is very common on the 1zz engines?

Positive. I ended up finding a CAI for a matrix on ebay and it works on my vibe perfectly.
