Clutch Safety Switch not engaging easily, so I bypassed it, but the problem persists!

Post by CrazyAirborne »

So I just bought the car (I posted an intro in the other section) and the guy mentioned the clutch safety button doesnt always engage. Ive been living with it for a few weeks but decided to just bypass it so I dont have to sit there and smash the clutch a couple times to get the car to start.

Well Ive now bypassed the little button, but the problem persists! The car still wont turn over and acts like the clutch button isnt pressed. Whats the next thing up the line that is acting faulty? I thought for sure it was just the button, but with that completely bypassed, its still doing it!

Any help or ideas?

Thanks!

(posted this in the electrical section cuz I figured its an electrical problem, mods can move it if I messed up!)

Just curious, how did you bypass the safety switch?

Try jiggling the wires while you try and start the car, I'd suspect a break or short in the wire somewhere.

I followed the tutorial I found here on this site, I basically just jumped the two wires so now it acts like the switch is always pressed. I dont have to press the clutch at all when Im starting the car. I know this isnt the safest thing, but it did help me realize it wasnt the switch that was at fault!

Ill have to do some digging into that starter diagram.
