Hello.
I have a 2006 Vibe with about 180,000 miles. I love the car... Aside from the rattles. Setting aside all the interior rattles, I have one metallic sounding rattle that occurs briefly at about 2700 RPM. It is a slightly higher pitch than the engine itself. It comes from the front end - I feel like it is lower front end. It has made that noise as long as I can remember - probably not as loud when I first got the thing. I asked at the dealer early on and they investigated and gave me the old "they all do that". I actually test drove another on the lot and it did make the same noise. I even went to another dealer to check a 3rd and it made the noise too. So, I just let it go.
If I accelerate hard it can only be heard very briefly at that specific RPM. If I accelerate slowly the noise lasts longer as I pass that specific 2700 rpm. If I set the cruise at about 2700 on the highway at around 75 mph it is a constant noise. It is like the engine vibration at that RPM makes something vibrate against something.
Any ideas on this?
