Bummer of a broken fog light.

Post by tkenway »

Okay, I've been doing some work on my Vibe recently, pretty much restoring it to it's former visual glory. No more faded paint, scratches, nicks, dings or chips. I restored my headlights, they weren't exactly pretty, but now they're crystal clear once more! I did not touch the fog lights, however.

Today, I found my passenger side fog light to be broken. It looks like something hit it, maybe? I'm not entirely sure.

Can I fix it? Replace it, preferably on the cheap because I don't have any money?

When my fog light broke I bought a new one on Ebay from user lampasap.
http://www.ebay.com/sch/m.html?_odkw=&_ ... &_from=R40" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

The lens is plastic instead of glass, which I prefer, and it's a high quality lamp.
It even included a new bulb :)

Once you get under the bumper with a flashlight it all becomes clear.
There is one electrical plug, one retainer (squish with pliers), and an alignment thing on either side. Once the retainer is squished, you can push the fog light out. Be careful, I pushed too hard and the fog light went flying in to the garage breaking the glass even more.

thanks. I need to wait til I have an extra 30 bucks lying around to buy a replacement. In the mean time, I actually currently have a working fog light and a hole where my previous light had been. :( Someone thought it would be nice to relieve me of my other fog assembly, and poked it out with a bat (i assume. I was not the one to do it!)

Hopefully, once someone vacate my garage here at home, I'll be able to get under the car long enough to do something useful with it.

On my vibe both lenses were broken out badly. The reflector bowls were also rotted out and not really chrome anymore.

Bought a sheet of lexan plastic from Home Depot. Traced out the housings on it, cut and sanded The edges. Then I removed the old glass, scraped out old silicon, painted the insides silver with lots of clear, and silicones the lexan lenses on.

Doesn't look as good as OEM, but for 12 bucks or whatever it'll do.

How easy is it to do? I'm not the most handy guy around, I'm likely to cut off a finger with a spoon. (And yet they let me drag on the tracks?)

Here is a how to for an acura. Now the vibe foglight doesn't have a trim ring that goes around like this one. That is the big difference. http://www.acuraworld.com/forums/f27/di ... fix-69762/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

-Remove foglight assembly.
-Bake in oven for 7 mins at 200 degrees
-Remove old lens and scrape out silicon
-Trace foglight on lexan, then cut lexan with skill saw
-Sand down edges to get a nice fit
-Silicon the heck out of the channel on the foglight.
-Mount lexan and clamp it to housing. Let dry for a few hours.

That seems easy enough, can I get all of this stuff at local places?

Home Depot or lowes sells sheets of lexan. Walmart or auto store for silicon.

Cool, I'll have to wait until it isn't over 100 degrees outside so I can work on it!

I know this is an old post and maybe you already fixed it, but I have a brand new driver-side assembly for sale: viewtopic.php?f=46&t=41906" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

It's a passenger side assembly. It might just. Be the bulb, my friend says.
