2003 GT Grounding Points

Post by DavidPIL »

I need a little help with a Ground on my 2003 GT.

I had some repair work done and I don't think they replaced a ground correctly. It's the ground lead that is about 8" below the top of the Strut mount on the driver's side. What does that ground wire connect to on the other end?

Mine goes from that point described above, to the normal ground point on the Transmission. This seems to just bridge 2 grounding points rather than actually grounding something electrical.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

The diagram I'm looking at calls it G103 and says it's for the engine compartments' ground. It looks like it attaches to an actual connector on the back of the junction between the engine and the transmission. The diagram isn't the greatest and it's a bit hard to tell. I can't link to it, as it's on prodemand...

Can someone else verify? I don't have a 2ZZ-GE engine, and the 1ZZ-FE doesn't have G103.

My 03 GT has the same ground. Strut tower to the Transmission. Are you have any issues?

Having several issues since having my clutch replaced...

But regarding this one, I added grounds 8 years ago - this particular ground wire seems to be awfully loose, and I don't remember it connecting where it is now on the transmission. I've had a CEL on for forever (forget the # but it has to do with O2 Bank 1 or Cat or something about the injectors), researched it, a forum post popped up and it stated a loose G103 ground was causing misfire issues in a Cobalt - but also listed the Vibe GT in the comment as well. http://www.cobaltss.net/forums/problems ... es-105419/ .

I've already done the O2, twice! The Cat is maybe at issue because it's probably near 150,000 miles (High Flow Magnaflow). Hope it's not the injectors but I am over 230,000 miles so who knows. I'm just trying to eliminate the possibles. and that wire just seemed out of place to me.

BTW, my first clutch lasted 214,000 miles. This new one with only 16,500 miles already feels worse than the original did at replacement. Shudders, high pedal engagement. Out of warrantee now. Clutch place told me my flywheel was fine when they replaced the clutch but are now saying the shudder is probably the flywheel. A little perturbed about that.

I really don't understand the issue. Are you trying to fix the CEL? Did you have the CEL before the clutch replacement? Are you getting new codes? You really need to know which CEL code you are getting?

Replacing sensors rarely fixes problems.

I really just wanted to make sure that the ground I was talking about was connected to the correct places.

The CEL has been an ongoing problem that used to only come on after driving many hours on the Highway while driving slower or at a light in town on the same trip but now it's rare that it turns off on it's own (though it does occasionally). It has really been more of an issue for the past year or so. I believe it was a P0136 but I may be mistaken. I just remember checking possible causes (Faulty O2, inefficient Cat, misfire, or fuel pump issue) and researching logical solutions.

This CEL has no noticeable symptoms except for my exhaust pipes tend to get very sooty. Gas mileage is 28-34 mpg, no rough idle though it does sometimes randomly hiccup for a second or 2 and it accelerates great (though the low end torque does seem a little weak). I'm fairly content to live with a CEL if I continue to get mileage like that!

Fuel pump was replaced about 3.5 years ago, both O2 sensors have been changed out but had to go back to my original post cat O2 because it has a resistor mod on it. The CEL came back immediately with a non-resistor'd O2 so that shouldn't be the problem. The Cat is old, maybe from 2005 or 2006ish and has at least 150,000 miles on it, if not more. A Cat replacement is way down on the list of repair priorities - I was just hoping to maybe find something simple.

Anywho, thanks for help on the ground.
