Traction Stablitrk and Service Engine Light on

Post by tucker442 »

First time here so I'm a bit green on this site, been a GM A tech for years got out of the business in 2002 after over 40 years in GM dealers. Bought my daughter a 2009 Vibe, 2.4 auto trans. Yesterday I changed the oil and filter, looked it over saw nothing other than the RF tire was down to 26 lbs and the rest were at 32, tire light was on. I air up all the tires to 35 psi, check for oil leaks and level, park the car in her spot. This morning she gets about 2 miles from home, calls and says all these lights are blinking, she comes home takes her moms car to work. I get in it, sure enough, some light with squiggly lines is blinking, trac light is on and the service engine light is on all at once this happens. I take it for a short drive still blinking, I try the button on the dash for stablitrak and nothing happens or changes. I tried shutting it off and on a few times to no avail. My wife works 5 miles from our home so she takes it to work, calls and said, what lights?? I don't see any lights on. So I go there lunch time to take her to lunch and drive the Vibe, sure enough all the lights were off and I drove it about 15 miles total back and forth to lunch. \
Any Idea's what I should look for? Car just turned 36k on the clock so it's not like it's worn out and my daughter drives like an 80 yr old lady. I have no idea where to look next?

This is very common on the 2nd gens. The usual culprit is the rear wheel speed sensors. It happens to mine almost every time I wash it or rotate tires. Some have had luck disconnecting the connectors and cleaning up the contacts. The sensors themselves are part of the rear hub and are not replaceable without replacing the whole assembly. Personally I just live with it. The lights come on an average of one day a month total. I can live with that.

Yeah seems quite a bit of folks here experiencing this including myself. In the five years I've had the vibe, mine only happened once and coincidently one of my brake lights were out in the back too so after I changed the bulb all the lights were gone lol Never happened again since. I just thought it was telling me a light was out, but guess it could be something else =/
