Wanted:Decent Used Tires in Central Ohio

Post by earlyre »

Buddy of mine in Columbus has an '03 base Vibe with the stock 16" wheels, with tires probably beyond legally bald. he also definitely does NOT have the $400+ for a set of new tires, looking for any recommendations on reputable sources of good used tires, or if any of you vibers might have an extra set of rubber just lying about, that you need to move...

Lack of response might be due to most of us not trusting used tires - that the term "decent used tires" is an oxymoron. There are several used tire places operating under "Steve's". There was one just north of the Airport on Stelzer Road. Another used tire place just east of James & Main. Wirthman's junkyard at Barnett and Main might have used tires. I wonder if some regular dealers like Discount Tire might have "take offs" at a reasonable price - that's when a new car buyer doesn't want the tires that came with the car. Or they might have tires that a customer bought and just didn't like. I have not seen any Pep Boy ads recently but they used to have some pretty low priced new tires. Also - try Craig's list.

I did try craigslist. found pretty much (removed)-all.
I can totally understand not trusting used tires, but almost anything is better than what he has on there currently.

also keep in mind for me, while he(My Buddy, the vibe owner/driver) is in Columbus, (specifically down on Kossuth, couple blocks from Parsons), I'm doing the "legwork" from up here in Lima (2hrs/100mi away)

Your buddy lives in an area some joke as being served by "Midnight Auto". Maybe he should just park his Vibe and take the bus. Is he physically/mentally disabled or just clueless (like my youngest son) when it comes to taking care of what most of us would consider basic tasks of everyday living - e.g. finding a place to buy used tires.

I'd lean towards Clueless, but he's more of the "artistic" type

Honestly, he might be better off if someone WOULD steal the car.
when he bought it, he knew he wanted a vibe, and had come into a little money, and the crooks -i mean used car Dealer- he bought it from saw him coming a mile away.

most of the folks here would have taken 1 look, and walked away. engine and trans are great, but the rest of the car was an obvious frontal/passenger side collision, with a quickie, "that'll do" type repair. if you want a rundown, of what all is wrong, see this thread:
viewtopic.php?f=20&t=39201" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
it would be a great car for a project car for a kid in auto-body school, or as a part-out, he just doesn't have the $$ to replace it.
