lowering

Post by Scootman! »

I want to lower my Vibe with adjustable springs; for summer and winter driving. Any idea on how well these perform and are they easy to adjust, install, and cost?

I say go with a full air ride managment kit. They are fully adjustable and allow you to lay out your vibe all the way without having to make tedious adjustments to each coil over. Plus riding on air is sweet anyway.Suicidedoors sells a kit for the vibe.http://www.suicidedoors.com/03...t.phpThe kit includes:Lower your ride, improve your handling, and get control over your suspension. The most versatile choice for suspension on today's market. Go from the strip to the street to the show floor with the push of a button. Our air struts are designed to give you maximum performance with our 9-way dampening system previously only found on high end coilovers. Want to adjust your spring rate as well? No coilover will ever offer this option! Adjust your spring rate with the flip of a switch or use our optional "Auto Pilot" digital controller to set it and forget it. When style matters just as much as performance, our air struts will let you down... as low as you want to go. Wheel gap never helped anyone win a car show! Tuck those rims up where they're supposed to be. Combined with our F.B.S.S. air management system (included) this kit will set you on the ground, let you clear speed bumps, and get in and out of driveways without scraping your ride. Not to mention the remarkably smooth ride that air provides. So just to go over it one more time you get: (2) Front 9-way dampening Air Struts, (2) Rear 9-way dampening Air Struts, our fast F.B.S.S. air management system comprised of (8) Platinum Series 300psi chrome valves, (2) Dual Needle 200psi gauges, (4) switches for individual wheel control, chrome 200psi 100% duty cycle Viair compressor, 5 gallon (8) 1/2" ported air tank, all nickel plated push to connect fittings for leak free connections, emergency fill valve, drain (removed), 175psi pressure switch, 40 ft of 1/2" D.O.T. approved air line for fast air transfer, 50 ft of 16 gauge wire, and our air line cutter for added ease of installation. You won't find a more complete system for your ride!it uses air strutsThe kit comes with everything you would need to bag your vibe.Suicidedoors.com is the best company to deal with for airbag stuff. I use them all the time for my truck.

Tein basic coilovers are about $800.00 and Tein SS with adjustable damping are about $1,200.00.http://neverenoughauto.com/cat....html

you can get a TEIN coilover kit with EDFC that allows you to make adjustments at the push of a button. very spendy, but quite nice. and if you only want to be lowered and not use the car for performance, then airbags are fine. but for performance use like going auto x or rally, bags will not do. you'll want coilovers and TEIN makes some of the best out there. If i were to do it again (which may be next year), I'll be going with a TEIN and EDFC kit for my car.

Just to make this a little clearer for the OP.The Tein EDFC only adjusts the struts VALVING and no ride hight what so ever, you still have to make manual ride hight adjustments by turning the rings on the body of the strut. And as far as riding on air, there ARE track worthy air systems out there, no, none for the Vibe, but there are adjustable systems out for Subarus and BMWs that you drive to the Atuo-X on and flip a switch and be ready for track action... http://www.praxissystems.com/Many Many articles i've read about airbagging classic cars and trucks, site a dramatic increase in suspension performance over a traditional suspension, in terms of comfort AND performance. Shocks control it, springs/bags hold it up (unless your speaking of progressive springs then air is slightly different...

i'm running coilovers now, but i will say the ride is rough and i bounce everywhere. i'm sure i can change that with the dampening, however, then i'd have to readjust it everytime for the track. bleh. too much work. LOL

Well, if your bouncing down the road, you must not be tuned properly, or the spring rates could be off... Well, i don't need you tell you, you guys should know that from the NASIOC community..

Well, i don't need you tell you, you guys should know that from the NASIOC community.. LOL. everything is set for the track. we go 2-3 times/mo or more during the "season" (which is right now). and though i'm bouncing in my car, it's not any different from the STI, but with squeaks and clunks from the suspension (i MUST find the squeak source!! ) the way they are adjusted, the ride quality definitely suffers, but i'm rather used to it, being that we did drive down 6000 miles with them set up the same. and glad i did have the stiffer suspension because it allowed us to drive over the frost heaves without bottoming out. had i still had the S-Techs on the car, no way we'd have made it over some of those (or the gravel areas without much damage). up here, we have a few of the show cars with bags, but for winter, they either park the car, or change back. seems like a lot of work to change it out, but our winters are not very condusive for that type of system.
