I hear the engine whinning through rear speakers

Hello GenVibers, hope you can help me with this. A couple of days ago, I started hearing the engine whine through the rear speakers. What could this be and how to fix. '03 Vibe GT, I had the front door speakers replaced about a year ago. ANy help would be appreciated.

Used to be that meant time to change the points and condenser but probably a bad ground somewhere, I have no idea where to suggest you look. Hopefully someone will post up something useful.

I notice a whine from my speakers when I am on the AUX input and don't have my iPhone plugged in.

I heard old pioneer head units could ground through the antenna some how, and it caused more of a BUZZ sound.... Not sure if it helps. But its an idea.

Thanks for the responses joatmon, laovemyraffle and MotoAce51. I have installed a Pioneer DEH-3200UB (got from Crutchfield in April 2011). No problems when it was installed. So may lead me to believe as all of you have indicated a bad ground or maybe blown speaker. I was going to change the speakers anyway so I'll hoping this will solve the issue unless some other GenViber weigh in.

Pioneer's always have ground issues from what I hear. Still, its all I ever run in my cars....

It could be some kind of interference. Is the whine high pitched and do you notice the pitch going up as you accelerate?

Hi bigdaddyjosh, it's high pitch and does do up as I accelerate.

I believe that means you are experieincing EMI (Electro-Magnetic Interference.) Do you have any kind of amp on your speakers? I have had this happen to me many times and it was because the installers ran unshielded or bad RCA cable alongside my power wire. I believe the way it works is that as current is going through a wire it produces magnetic waves that radiate out and then travel into whatever wires are around.

I don't have a M&T system so I can't help as far as that goes. But it could still be an issue with that amp or wires.
