Salutations,Having never had a 4cyl, manual before. I find the rpms really high compared to the other cars we've had. At 120kms (74.5mph) cruising hwy speed, the 1.8l turns about 3200 3300 rpm's. Is this what others are running? My buddy drives a Kia Spectra 2l and doesn't run nearly that high. Understand that the 4 cyl is going to run higher than the 3.8l automatic we just retired, but still surprised it runs that high in 5th gear.Is the Vibe considered a "city" car?RegardsS.

In regards to whether or not it is a "city" car - my highway mileage is only slightly better than stop-and-go city driving. Once you get above 3000RPMs, the mileage in this car isn't much better than a typical V6 doing the same.My best tanks are always when its mostly rural driving between 80 and 100km/hr.

Hmmm..mine sound a bit high.I find 120kms a little slow, normal cruise speed in the Monte was 130kms on the 417 for daily commute west into Ottawa. I'd go faster but I need my licence can't afford the fine and 150 and over tends to scare other peeps on the road. I like the woosh...Wonder if I should bring it in to dealer, (understand there's a Surgenor guy here) no idiot lights on in dash lit up, maybe some uncleared codes scanner can pull up.

I have an '09 Vibe GT and at 95mph I am sitting at 3000 rpm's. At 70mph, the rpm's are around 2500 (maybe a little less). I also have the automatic with DSC, but don't think that makes much difference.
The speed limiter is set at 185 in both 4th and 5th gear. You can take it to about 6600 before the rev limiter kicks in (I only did that twice, by accident, and was in 2nd gear both times). There's a vid somewhere of me doing a 0-170 run... try my youtube link (in signature)Just remember... 185 = BIG ticket, charges, vehicle impoundment, ect...
...if you really want to "know" your cars' MPH versus RPM relationship, here's the equation:MPH = [ 60/(G*A)]*[ RPM/rpm ]...where:MPH = vehicle speed, miles-per-hour.RPM = engine speed, revolutions-per-minute.rpm = tire speed, revolutions-per-mile.60 = conversion constant, minutes-per-hour.G = transmission gear ratio, ie: 1.00:1, 0.745:1, etc.A = axle gear ratio, ie: 3.55:1, etc....get tire rpm from your local tire shop or website. Actual number depends upon tire and wheel diameter, but typically a number between 900 and 800, roughly.
