Best headlight option (low $$$)

Post by Kevzaz »

There seems to be this unanswered question as to what is the best high beam out there. Obviously an HID with a retrofit is probably the best option. But not all of us have the money. I'm not sure if I want to buy HIDs without a retrofit either. So what bulbs are the best?

I know probably everyone that posts after me will disagree, but I love my SilverStars. You can find them on eBay for cheap.

I use them as well. A pack of 2 is $19 at WallyWorld. One downside is that they are not long-life.

Before I did the retrofit I had the 55W HID's in there and they worked great. They didnt seem to throw too much extra light around and I was never flashed with them. There are tons of un-retrofitted HID cars around me these days....

A good full pattern compared to the high beams alone.Though I am running the SilverStar Ultra's in my Mazda's high beams. For over a year now. They aren't bad, but no match for the HIDs in the low beams.

Thanks for the update. I blew a headlight the the other day, but Walmart, Advance & Pep Boys dont carry Phillips. I just eneded up buying a standard replacemnt Silvania. They do seem brighter that the stock bulbs. Is it true that as the bulb ages it loses its brightness? That may be why my headlights seem brighter LOL.

Yea, I ordered mine off amazon and got them cheap. And yea, lights do get dimmer with age. They should start making all LED headlights... that would be sick
