Remote start pricing

Post by 09vGT »

I stopped by a local reputable stereo shop that also sells and installs remote starters. The price for the remote starter and install is $200.00. Then the guy tells me that I'll have to have something that will bypass it, but I don't think that my has to have one; it does NOT have the security system and there are not any type of security lights that light up when starting the car. I told the dude this but he insisted it has to have it. I'm not 100% sure, but want to find out before I dish out $70.00 for the bypass. Does the pricing sound okay, or is it overcharged? I have no idea when it comes to these types of things. The remote start brand is an AutoPage RS-60 http://www.autopageusa.com/t_i...c27ec Its strictly just a one button remote start, no alarm or any other keyfob functions. Thanks!

The 09s do have an immobilizer that is bypassed with an RF signal from the key. Side bar Autopage does make nice R/S units.

I just got a remote start installed last week in my 2009. Even though almost all manuals say a bypass is needed, I can tell you without a doubt that NO BYPASS IS NEEDED!I previously had a key cut at the hardware store to prove that the key had no transponder or resistor. I then found a shop that would do the install without a bypass initially and only add it if needed. IT WASN"T NEEDED!I intend to do a full write up soon when I get time.Total cost $150, have been using it for a week now and everything works great.Disclaimer; This is for a US model with NO factory security system.

Okay, so the real test will be if I get a key cut at like WalMart and the car starts.. I DO NOT need the bypass then? Like I said.. I have no security lights at all, unlike my old mustang that would say THEFT when I started it.. But I know it was chipped..

Only the Canadian models require a bypass module. If you want, just take off your steering shroud and see if it has a black plastic ring with wire attached to it around the key cylinder. If so, you have an immobilizer and will need a bypass. BTW, if you're looking to install one yourself, I can get you the RS with keyless for $120. Can get you the bypass for another $35 if your car needs it. It's an AutoStart US1475 made by DEI, the same makers of Viper and Python. http://www.autostart.ca/prodIn...US%29
